It's retail holiday spending time of course everyone is hiring but come January layoff time again, the same cycle over and over again every year.
-
Yes apparently they start hiring for the holidays in June
-
True. Overseas supply chain starts shipping BTS (Back To School) in April or May and Holiday starts shipping right after that. About a month later that starts impacting truck freight. Usually if Xmas freight from overseas can't be delivered to a distribution center by Thanksgiving it won't be received as it has no chance to make it to the stores.
Spring starts shipping in November.
Don't get me started on how far in advance orders need to be placed or design and sampling have to be done. Right now in the retail or brand name world sales samples for Spring '17 were made last April and orders are DONE. BTS and Fall design and samples are done and ordered. Spring '18 design is underway. -
That makes me sick. Then again I should already know this from my time out there how the freight moves.
My hobby shop reported some products are stuck aboard embargoed Haijin container ships off shore and rotting in the sun. I wonder what else might be rotting while they are working really hard to clear the mess and get the line and it's assets sold. -
Glenn Beck-a-Loon says we are definitely headed for an imminent crash.
Sponsor this half hour is Goldline....Rusty Trawler and Ooops Thank this. -
The lead times for product design, sample making, and production shouldn't be cause for upset. It is what it is.
I dealt with many a starry eyed entrepreneur that want me to help produce and deliver their "next great thing" in time for Christmas, talking to me in September. It's not going to happen the same way that running through Houston at the speed limit during rush hour isn't going to happen.
Financial meltdown in '08? Plenty of retailers and vendors were caught off guard, with orders and inventory that couldn't be sold. When orders have to be placed at least three to six months in advance (for small orders) it's hard to stop the momentum, kind of like trying to stop a load of pipe on a flatbed.x1Heavy Thanks this. -
WelI with the economy today this is out of date but i drove for cannon express from 8/02 to12/03 and they closed 5 months later in 04 do to bad management. If fact all 3 company i drove for that went out buisness was because of bad management. Direct Trasit Inc, and toy r us. They also go under do to leagal issue like star or divorcre like ms carrires. Ive been with kllm over 3 years now..js

Toys are Us is tragic.
THEY MADE good money, but someone or someones got either greedy or sloppy getting into debt or something. They could never leave well enough alone. Open the ware house, stack and shelve all the toys and mind the kids when they run wild.
I visited the one in McCain for the last time I think 18 months ago. Im kind of not sorry I passed on the overpriced chess set. I need to find a decent set without paying 50 dollars for it. But not stoop to the milton bradely plastic ones either. I sent my last board and set to Iraq in 2003 with a bunch of other freight in donating for our troops. Im not sorry I did that. Hopefully it has not been destroyed. -
Yep! Old MS Carriers! Rumor I heard at the time was that Mikey boy couldn't stop chasing anything in a skirt, and his wife had enough. I also heard (again, rumor) that Mike's ex wife tried to stop the sale and keep the company away from Ol' Jerry Moyes, but Jerry won that fight.
Every now and again, whispers float across the coffee counter that she's gonna start a new company, but at this point I think its just wishful thinking.desperado75 and x1Heavy Thank this.
