How to know if a C15 engine is good or bad

    Good afternoon truckers. I’m considering buying a W900 with. A c15 acert engine. I was wondering how can I tell if the engine is good or bad?

    Oil sample, Dyno, Inspection from a good CAT shop. What year and how many miles?

    2007 920,000 on dash and around 600,000 on rebuilt

    If it is an Acert they will be turbo issues.
    Being twin compound turbos are bound to fail early. To much heat build up.

    Not unheard of man. Truck I bought had to go back to cat after first 250k miles of being brand new. They had to do full rebuild and put updated liners and all that crap in.

    Miles don't count for anything when talking about engines IMO. I go by hours just because most times you don't really know what the truck did all its life. If it only ever hauled locally it will be houred out long before its miled out.

    Yup. Especially if it had a pto on it. Running pumps equals tons of idle time

    That’s what the guy I bought the truck from said. He said it was rebuilt after 250k for some reason, but honestly I didn’t believe him because he didn’t have the paper work.
