Ag exemption on Rand McNally 760

Most (all) ELD's have no concept of exempt miles. What FMCSA recomends is either log out, and when logging in at the 150 mile point, simply tell it the miles are exempt. You can also use personal conveyance with an annotation stateting ag exempt.

That is correct. (as an ELD Provider) However, I do not recommend, being logged out for the 150 Miles. This will cause the ELD to record the driving as "Unassigned Driving" Events. You will then, be prompted to accept or reject those events (Both of which, require annotation on every event), which is a pain-in-the-butt. Quite a few events can pile up, within the 150 air mile range. Also, these events can be inadvertently accepted, which will then attach to the driver's log (Interrupting the "Off Duty" Driving) and certainly lead to additional frustrations. I usually recommend (to my customers), that they operate in the 150 under P/C with the EXACT detailed annotation "AG Exempt 49 CFR § 395.1(k). Start Point: (address)." This will not only account for all of the exempt mileage, which leads to less explaining, it's also requires (believe it or not) less driver interaction with the device.

 

My brother is running the VDO unit and he uses p.c. for his exempt miles. I’m sure you could do the same on the eld you have.

 

No. You still report all miles. They’re only exempt from hours of service regulations.
