No One is talking about the government here dude. What, Who wants the Government involved? No one said Anything about the Government.
I was talking about starting wages for drivers are the same from 20 years ago. The economy is up, prices of everything is up but the drivers wages do not fit this economy for 2009. These Wages Are Coming from the Trucking Companies.
Rates back in the 70's were higher at. 1.25-1.50 a mile for an O/O. What are they today? .92-1.00 .a mile. The wages of a O/O has gone down. Even the percentage has gone down.
Company drivers are still the same, of an average .32 cents a mile. Thirty two cents a mile was paid, even 20 years ago too. And these wages are controlled by the trucking companies. Do they want to see You make more Money? Nay., I should say not, except for their own pockets.
So you're in a good positon? Good for you ! You haven't even mentioned what you're pulling, or what your'e bringing home a week. You're one of the fortunate ones. Hope it lasts for you. But you can't be making that much money from what the shipper is paying , then going through several hands before it gets to you! That's there is common sense.,MO! UNLESS, The company you're signed on with,, Has Their OWN PRODUCT. That's the way to Go for ALL Drivers!
Back in the summer when Container work was booming, we were pulling in , (take Home) at least $2,000 a week. This was a Small Company that had their Own Contract with the Shiplines. NO OTHER HANDS INVOLVED>And This Was Local Work!
You can't make that through third party companies. No Way, not when it goes through , several hands first. Somehow, maybe You, as you claim??
Sure, But, not for the Majority of Companies and Drivers. If That was True, then the Whole economy would be booming for the Drivers. And it's All coming from these Sleazy Third Party Transportation LOGISTIC Companies.!
You Quote:
Right MO! You Proved it Right there! Who's really racking in the money? Thank You ! So Many Drivers Can't Even Make Ends meet! Many Drivers are Losing their shirts and their Homes! Let's Get REAL here!
Who are the Holders? Are They also buying some Oil Fields too? Who's Really Making the Money?
And if you claim you're doing So well, (what are you pulling boats?) why don't you post who you're working for and what you're making? So other Drivers here can look into it.? You claim? You Prove.
Lets Talk about Money here!
That's one thing here on this forum you never hear., talked about.

Off the top of my head. I would assume he is talking about the fine Christian outfits from Chattanooga, TN. Based on what I know.Last edited by a moderator: Feb 22, 2009

First, Prime pays well above the 28 cpm crap wages that others pay their starting company drivers.
Second, we pull ice cream loads, I've done my share of them, and I don't recall ever pulling into Ben and Jerry's.
It would be nice if y'all would get your facts straight before trashing Prime. -
If I was talking about company drivers....
#1 Prime does pull Ben and Jerrys out of Vermont.
#2 It paid lease ops .78 a mile at one time. (2007)
#3 Prime has an IN HOUSE brokerage. Which means they dip into the rate....twice. Before the driver sees his cut.
And those ARE the facts. -
Not recently, although we probably wouldn't turn down the freight considering whats been going on in this country.
They've been paying lease ops 72% of the linehaul revenue, and 100% of the fuel surcharge for quite some time before 2007.
Prime sales quotes rates directly to shippers. How do you get "double dipping" from that? And yes, any freight that Prime doesn't want to pull does get farmed out. If management wants to cover their costs in finding freight and putting up for an outside vendor to pull - there's nothing wrong with that. Its called doing business.
Since you don't drive for Prime and I do, I think I'm a little more informed...luvtheroad Thanks this. -
A lot of unhappy drivers here. Is anyone happy with their company? Is anyone making the money that they expected? I must have been really lucky getting on with Sygma.
The pay is fantastic and the home time is, too. I'm home four days a week. Bring home close to 2grand every two weeks. They even took me straight from trucking school. -
Well then, I suspect you know the name of the owner of the ONLY privately owned, and wholly paid for Casino on the MS gulf coast then...right? Get back with me on that one, will you?
No I don't drive for Prime. I don't have to. I just have to be able to read and listen when I'm being spoken too. Having a broke ### friend who did work for Prime, helps too.
And that's why I don't drive for Prime. Your story is NOT the complete story. Just as it's not the complete story with any company within this forum.
BTW, I know how line-haul and percentages work.
In house brokering is a blight on the industry. And a means of stealing from O/O and lease drivers. Having a brokerage firm listed as a separate entity, while maintaining an office within your primary business, is legal.
It allows you to legally tell your drivers, who are in freight distressed areas, it's a load from a broker who is getting his cut. Never mind...you're the broker.
It's still theft in my book. -
I'm happy for the moment. And as long as the people I work for continue to hold up their end of the deal. I'll be here for awhile. I really dislike companies that change the rules, for their own profit. At my expense.
My only issue for the moment. Is the mandantory per diem
But, I think I've found a way to resolve that issue to my satisfaction. If Obama does bend me over first. -
Not sure the relgious leanings of those I work for...come to think of it I could care less who or what they do or don't pray to.
-
I believe most drivers are not aware of Line Hauls and what is really going on behind the scenes.
And thinking that they are working strictly for only the company that they are on with.?? Ha! If they questioned the Trucking Company would they get an Honest Answer?
Lets, start with the drivers pay,, oh but there's also a cut for the broker, and then a cut for the agent who uses these brokers. Lets not forget the cut going to the Trucking Company that these agents are working for.
And finally, the Trucking Company who runs under their Third party Logistic Company.
This is why the Rates are So Low for the Drivers. Everyone's got to first dip their fingers in the pot.
OH, By the WAY,, Sygma is a Speciality Company who is good to work for. As long as one enjoys unloading food products and multiple stops. There's good money there. They are different, from these regular Trucking Companies who hauls general freight.
