Why are you worried about company pay. There are good companies that pay well over .50 a mile. Hubby worked for one for 5 years as a driver. He left to become OO. He went with another company to get truck that paid their company drivers .43 a mile. Leash Op are 1.20 which is better than most. But we are now with a company making 80% of load and avg 2.5 a mile most weeks some weeks much better than that and a couple a little less.
Thing is new folks seeing dollars and have Never been around this business and buying new truck. Is a recipe for disaster.
Freight is out there paying but you got to make connections to get it and not good off at truck stops every chance you get. It's a Business so treat it like one. There is no shortage of bad drivers.

I’m at a mega carrier and what can I do? Bring their g #### truck to a terminal and look elsewhere?

Guess depends where you are based out of. I want my trucks on the yard every weekend so I can look them over. I’m not comfortable with having trucks placed all around the country.

Good for you. Coulda went to Vegas and flushed that last 5 down the toilet.

You need two years. Small fleets that pay better almost all require 2 yrs due to insurance. Keep your head up.

You aren’t a chump if you get a year of experience and move on to a better company. Werner offered us .24cpm when we graduated. We gladly ate the recruiter’s pizza and went to Watkins/Shepard for .28 and were up to .31 after 90 days. We were up to .44cpm at the one year mark. You need to prove yourself before the doors open to better pay. If they don’t at your company then move on.

I hate to sound like HR at a big corp., but, what do you expect to get out of trucking? How much energy and patience and money can you spare to 'learn the ropes' again? You might want to think about what you want in the long term besides just money.

The megas will always find people who are bouncing aimlessly through life, just wanting to provide for your family is a very short term goal.

    Good Luck!

Do not leave your company until you have another one lined up and do not leave your company unless the one you’re moving to is substantially better. Do the research before making a move. The Megas are pretty much all the same but one is much worse than the others. I actually did a poll one time and found out that CR England was by far the worst carrier in the country so if you are with them anywhere else you go is going to be an improvement. Schneider seems to be the best.
