Well, Im kinda needing some advice on this but I found out that ASU-Newport you are allowed to get your CDL's at 20 but you just can't leave the state so I figure Local jobs right. My plan was to go ahead and get them and continue to work for Home Depot while I get my license. Then maybe I can do some rock work or haul cotton until I turn 21. Now by doing this how will companies look at me when I do turn 21? Are they going to treat me like I've not even got my cdl's? Will the local work even help me? I know they are looking for OTR experience but I figure this will give me a step ahead. Also could I get a job working for a Local LTL?
Go ahead and get them.

After a few months without experience most large carriers won't recognize a CDL . You'll have to pay for a refresher course . You can drive intrastate in Arkansas when you are 20 . Check with local farms and construction companies . With Obama promising construction jobs check with Arkansas companies like McGeorge Contracting .

The longer you have it the better.
Please don't call it CDL's or refer to it, as them. There is only one. -
I've always called them CDL's Because there are actually different ones. You got your Class A, Class B and you may have a Class C but im not to sure. Well I just really wanted to get it out of the way that way once i do turn 21 that is one less thing I do have to worry about.

If your considering going otr later down the road most companies dont look at local work for experience and will make you go to school or train through them. It sucks but insurance companies wont let them hire you unless you have otr exp or schooling.

Yea well that's fine I don't mind doing their refreshers course but Im just wondering like do you think its better to go ahead and get them out of the way? That way once I turn 21 i can just looking for a job? I seriously thought about getting like sponsored training but I will have to wait until 21.
