December 2017, I passed up one of those old school non prepass weight stations on some two lane highway. This was in the north pole way up in Washington in the dead of the winter. This weight station looked bare. I thought it was closed or a non op. There was a brown sign that said "all commercial vehicles must enter the weight station". All I saw was a slab of cement with no one there. Of course as I passed up the small entrance, I finally noticed 4 sheriff cars parked way off to the side. I panicked and realized after the fact, that it was probably open! Once I saw the 3 semi trucks behind me pass the weight station as well, I thought "whew, I'm cool!" Well, 2 miles up the road, a sheriff came up on me with lights flashing, and pulled me over as well as the other 3 trucks. Took our licenses and made all 4 of us turn around to go over the scales and meet him in the office. $185 fine for each of us. I was so scared that it would give me points and go on my MVR. I see several fellow truckers asking the consequences of passing up a weight station. No one that I found seemed sure of the answer. Thought I'd share my results with you guys....5 months down the road, I went to get my H6 printout, and the offense was not on my record! Still to this day nearly a year later, it still is not on my DMV record! I did pay the fine immediately (which automatically means I plead guilty). I was a rookie OTR driver that made an innocent mistake. Now, I do not know if it effected my CSA score. I am still trying to figure out how to get access to my personal CSA score. I can get access to my employer's score by going to: www.https://csa.fmcsa.dot.gov/ Not sure if I got points for that even though my DMV record is clean. Not really sure how it all works yet. Hopefully I have no points if it never showed up on my driving record? Maybe this will relieve some of you who have made the same mistake. Then again, I don't know if weight station violation laws vary with each state. This incident happened in Washington. I have a California license.

Another good reason to have a dashcam. If there wasn't a sign or flashing lights stating that it was open then I think you would have a good case.

There is a scale like that in SD. But it is closed. All the signs are still up. I pulled off and onto it. There is no open edge. Cemented over.
I asked DOT. They said they sometimes set up there with a portable scale. They put out extra signs and flags.
You goofed. Should have worn a Santa outfit. Told the Officer you’re gonna remember if he’s naughty or nice.

Some states are worse than others. In Oregon if you blow past a scale they log it from your transponder. Had a guy do it frequently a couple years ago with a previous employer of mine, and he ignored the scales like 4 times in just a few days. Finally as he was about to head back into California and blew off the last scale in Oregon, they chased him down and pulled him over. They checked his logs for the previous 7 days against the days and times that he ignored the scales and were able to figure out that he was violating HOS in every instance, and they took him out of service on the spot. He lost his job over it and they had to send another driver up to get his truck.

Huh? Was that around Burlington ,Wa? Some of these scales are Sneaky(will say closed) then you pass sign "Truck must exit.Like the one on I90 West by 18 hwy.Sign will say Closed...This is for Trucks staying on 90 toward Seattle.Trucks get off at exit for 18 west Tiger Mountain at at the light (a sign says trucks must weigh) .Many truckers say "p.s on that" ,and turn left ,scurry overe the hill. One time cops were sitting on shoulder 3 blocks up and must have had 10 trucks pulled over inspecting and issueing tickets.

Drivers do not have a CSA score. Any violations concerning the dot will be on your psp report which companies check as a pre hire thing. But no point values are assigned.
