I just had a Nolan Broker by the name of Azizi Pyron send us in for a load knowing we could only scale 41,500 and the rate confirmation sheet said 25,000. We had 142 miles of dead to pick it up. After we scaled the load weighed 42,300. When I called him he wanted the driver to take it even tho it was overweight and the shipper would not cut it. The shipper told our driver Azizi had done the same thing with a load the day before. In lost loads and deadhead miles this cost us over $2985. I was able to replace one load for $1500. He offered us $150.00 for TONU.
I was stupid and now have another load with them but different broker, I had not read this, and he was very nasty to my driver. We will never take another load from them.

Nolan has a very very bad reputation for a reason.
They tried hounding us a while back but we refused to sign then on from all the horror stories.

Same ####in thing happened to me. They post the load for 20k on the weigh and sent me ratecon with 37k pound I called them and they said maybe a mistake on posting. I DH 140 mile up to Detroit MI before I get loaded I asked the shipperman how weigh looks like he's said 44K pound, I called NTG and the mother ####in dude said I'll added $50 to reconfort you, I told u're a SOB since then I stopped pulling their mother ####in freigh. They are crooks. Be careful

Looks like they'll never change. I would have needed another $100 or I would have left. If they didn't agree I certainly would have contacted the Shipping Manager and showed him the details on the rate con too so the Broker couldn't lie and blame the Carrier before I left. This way, hopefully, the Broker gets cut loose or held to a higher standard by the Customer. I also never bid lower on a run just because it weighs less.

I dont want to say never, but it is very rare to get detention on a trade show load. Its not rare to have to wait 6,8,10 hours or even till next day after your appt time. 100 trucks and everyone has a 0800 appt. That is an appt to get in line to get a number that lets them no your there. Companies that do trade shows no that. So they charge accordingly. People unfamiliar with that segment, think they stumbled onto a great per mile paying load. Till they show up and get an education.

I saw a couple on the board yesterday that caught my attention. It was obvious they seemed to good to be true. Now I know why. Carriers that move this stuff without detention are fools. They should be having it put on the rate con right from the beginning.

With trade shows, you always bake one full day of detention into the rate, up front.

Well your sorta kinda right. Nobody or hardly anybody gets paid detention doing shows. It is understood pick ups and deliveries. Can take 2 hours (thats super fast) on up to two days. But 4-8 hours is kinda standard. I dont wanna start throwing numbers around. But $2-3 per mile is cheap freight. Then thier is all kind of creative charges. Like $1.80 per mile plus.40 fsc, then $60 scale fee (All tradeshow freight must have tare and loaded weights. That's what the show people Fed's are based on) $400 load fee $8-1200 unload fee. $200 metro major city fee and the all important $10 per cubic feet fee (that' why those trailer cf marking at the top inside of trailer. But thier is NO detention fee, it takes as long as it takes. So bring a book, or video, or take a tour of some guys super sleeper.

Totally new learning for me. I had no idea. I would have just bid my normal rate plus my accessorials being ignorant of how that particular niche works. I'm programmed for detention. I can't even imagine, nor do I think I could handle sitting their without knowing I was getting an hourly rate for the truck.
