Since we are talking Mobile Plans, here is an interesting article from SpeedTest that records and rates different quality and speeds of various data providers. T-Mobile has made a lot of advancements in Mobile Data coming in first place overall ... And Verizon is solid second. Lots of variety by State/City too.

Did they say you needed to purchase a new cell phone or just transfer?

Most companies will allow you to Being Your Own Device (BYOD)... BUT... the device you bring must be compatible with their networks and their frequencies...

I have a Verizon iPhone... I can take it to any carrier but if I had an AT&T iPhone, it won’t work on Verizon’s network. Other phones, especially the more economical ones, will likely be tied to a certain Carriers frequencies...

Also the age of a phone comes into play as well... even though my Verizon iPhone will work on the T-Mobile Network, they just bought and are rolling out a newer 600 MHz frequency on their network, so my iPhone 6S Plus, from 3-4 years ago, will work but won’t access their “full” network.

Which might be why your current (Metro?) phone is not working well on T-Mobile network after they bought Metro. The phone you have was probably designed for the Metro Network and now, even through T-Mobile bought them, you can’t access the full T-Mobile network of frequencies.

If you want a newer or carrier specific phone, checknout gazelle.com ... they buy old phones (Apple and Android) and resell them. So I could buy my iPhone 6S for like a couple hundred dollars today. I am upgrading my daughters iPhones this year using their refurbished phones instead of buying the brand new iPhones.

Was going to recommend a thing to let you bypass the 15GB hotspot data limit if you had a laptop. Though you might still want it for the tablet, I dunno. Depends on if you like to watch Netflix or something on the tablet.
