When I bought my blue W9 the guy I got it from said “I grease the truck every weekend” and boy did he ever. Had it about a week and thought the clutch brake was gone. Pulled the inspection plate and there was literally a pile of grease on it from him pumping grease onto the throwout bearing. Cleaned the grease off everything and magically the clutch brake was working again.

    There is a better way...
Unique Truck Equipment - Kiene Clutch Brake Cutter

Sure, it's pricey...but no risk of a grease or oil fire, no molten metal dripping on you, no risk of burning up seals or gaskets in the transmission, or damaging the input shaft, throwout bearing, clutch plates, or anything else by getting a little TOO aggressive with the torch.

As for the grinding, that can be solved with a little patience. Press the clutch, wait 5-10 seconds to allow things to slow down, THEN try shifting into gear.

Driver before me ruined my clutch brake. I get by fine without it.

I just jam it in low with no clutch to start anyways.

If I want to start in a higher gear like 2nd or 3rd I jam it in low push clutch and put it in 3rd.

Get it in the gear you want before you stop rolling.

You just jam it in low from a deadstop, can't be what you mean there. Find the gear you're looking for before you roll down to slow is the way to do it though, and time it right so you don't have to come all the way to a stop at the lights.

That’s exactly what I mean. Lol

Jam it in low, tap the gas and throw it in first immediately and you’re off to the races.

It’s an 8LL so you don’t even get a grind if you do it right.

I’ve never tried it with any other tranny.

And yes not coming to a complete stop is the best, even if you have a clutch brake i’d rather start from a roll.

That just seems like it might be a little hard on #### to me, never drove something with an 8LL though.

Nah, it doesn’t even grind and barely makes the truck jump.

An old driver taught me that move. He’s been doing it since 98 when they got these kw’s with the 8LL. It’s never ruined anything.
