Wouldn't UPS utilize their contracted owner/operators to move freight during a strike?
-
It's not the moving from one terminal to another, it's the actual pick up and delivery of freight. UPS doesn't want to use subs for the actual pick up and delivery of freight at customers. Subs are fine when it's UPS terminal to UPS terminal, but when it's with actual clients and customers it's not the same thing and they want actual UPS employees dealing with UPS customers. UPS has an image and standard and what not to uphold.just_sayin, Swiss Mountain Dog and Cardfan89 Thank this.

Yep yep yep, same here, not with me of course oh never not me, but we have a good amount of people with late model automobiles and shorties and things. It's like the 1992 film "The Firm" they get you in with a big pay check and a couple shorties and some late model cars and the kids in private school and the wife's used to living the good life and now you're stuck, because people want the entire $60 20lbs case of bacon brought home not just one little vacuumed sealed pack!LoneCowboy and Cardfan89 Thank this.

Company drivers driving Mercedes? I'm guessing these aren't 80s Mercedes either?Mike2633 Thanks this.

Alot of people who live in the free world have nice houses and shorties, lol. UPS understands this. The gravy train always comes to a end.
Investors don't care about unions. They care about Fed ex.Swiss Mountain Dog Thanks this. -
The union rep where my brother is told the drivers the union will drop them if they vote no.

I hope ups does go on strike ... the days of free labor truck drivers might be over .

I know guys at my terminal have some real nice cars, too. And they NEED that 60 hour a week paycheck attop rate just to keep their head above water, which is crazy IMO.
My issue with this whole thing is that nobody can provide a reference for what exactly UPS FREIGHT profit was for 2017. I heard $170M profit for 2017, but that was just coming from the union, and not from an official financial statement.
But the company and union leadership has achieved exactly what it wanted: a scared, cowered workforce that at this point would probably accept the original tentative contract. In fact, they had us all work yesterday to pull empties from all of our customers....ya know, just to REALLY drive it home that ups is shutting the whole operation down. I understand people are worried about their jobs, but in my mind that just ensures the company (and hoffa and his crew) will be able to have their way with us every #### time.
A union is only as strong as the worker thats willing to stand up and fight. Otherwise, were just giving dues and loyalty to people who, from my view, really dont care about us.
P.S. And if the company wants to now cry about how theres BARELY any profit in this, then really whats stopping them from shutting it all down to bust the union out? Then they reorganize it and re-open under a more profitable model.al_huryn Thanks this.
