Thinking about trucking for a living

From what I recall in Taxation class, a reasonable per-kilometre rate (as defined by the CRA -- currently $0.55 per kilometre for the first 5,000 km in a year and then $0.49 for each kilometre thereafter) is a non-taxable benefit.
The caveat here is that I suspect using your own personal vehicle to get to work would fall outside the rules that allow this as a non-taxable benefit.

 

Sorry for taking so long to respond. I don't have a wife or kids to look after, but I have elderly parents I check in on fairly frequently and often perform repairs or chores for them.

 

I can do all those things and could long before I ever darkened the doorway of a college.

 

I thought I would update you guys who were commenting here. I know it's been six years, but I finally got my CDL in the spring.
I'm currently doing shuttle work with a 53 foot roller trailer. I enjoy the independence of the work and relying on my own wits to carry me through any problems. I actually enjoy driving the tractor trailers immensely, too. To me, they're fun to drive because of the angles and all that.
The only downside is dealing with asswipe lazy co-workers (who I rarely see, thankfully) and arrogant management.
