There is no escaping it now. Can't hide from that foul stench of the DEF.

Most Pilot's don't have enough space to begin with. I can't imagine what it will be like getting in and out of their parking lots with drivers lining up for this stuff.

Can't smell worse than the California truck stops. How will you tell when the DEF is there? Sure can't smell more like pee.

I checked with Pilot and confirmed they will be doing this. The DEF tanks will be located on the outermost fuel islands and will be self contained units that store several thousand gallons of the product.
This helps makes our decision about 2010. SCR won't be a big deal, I predict. If the fuel economy goes up like they say, that will help...especially if prices start to rise again. -
The urine smell in the Pilot parking lots will make the smell of DEF unnoticeable . Our trucks are back at the terminal a couple of days a week . When the time comes we'll probably add it then . My boss has 30 tractors . HE bought all new in '05 and '06 to avoid DPF's . I thought he'd buy '09's to avoid the '10 requirements but he hasn't replaced any trucks yet .

If you get a good wiff of the def it will stay with you for the rest of the day. It has a very strong ammonia smell to it. It is slightly acidic and if you spill it on you trucks paint you would want to wash it off asap. The DEF is comprised of 23-24% urea and 76-77% water. The lanes will probably be clearly marked DEF.
