I could explain why this doesn’t work well but I would just get frustrated. And no it doesn’t much matter if tour trailer is customor not. It is really just math and physics. Yes you can build a trailer with an extra long neck (17+ft) that will reach the fifth wheel on a 2 axle Jeep (yes you have to be that far forward to push weight onto the tractor)
But that moves the center of weight forward on the trailer so close to the neck that you cannot load the load far enough forward in the well to get the desired weight split. That is in part why you run a booster - to move the center of weight back in the well offsetting the length of the neck.

When you understand the above concept you will be on your way to understanding loading a HH type trailer.

I will, again at the pain of being my usual a hole self, encourage the OP to start small and learn the underlying skills necessary to dmake the job. Things are bad enough out here with people bootlegging and hitting crap and cutting rates because they don’t choose to buy the right equipment. After all what could go wrong ? Just slap an axle on your freight truck and pin an axle on on your ragged out 35t and voila you are ready to haul 120k on the deck.

And yes I have loaded with a Jeep and no booster and no you really can’t scale much over about 65k legally and yes the #### thing is sitting on the neck as far forward as it will go

holy F*** a custom made lowboy is way more expensive than i thought i can buy a new one in texas for 50,000 new build like i want and delivered to me anywhere in lower 48 states with full 5 year warranty

i understand nobody has them custom made #### that is insanely high i have bought houses way cheaper than that and sold them cheaper than that

    I will
    Say this very carefully

A $50k “new” lowboy will be a poorly constructed trailer and very limited in its function and capacity.

This is the reason rates are in the toilet ...just go get th cheapest trailer you can find and off you go

Heck, a regular old flatbed cost $50k new!

I’m thinking it’s not much of a lowboy for $50k. Heck you can spend $70 on a step deck easy enough?

I would not ever use such a trailer to move anything more than at most a 30k lb load, and then only once and park it forever. Quality costs money!

Peerless For Sale - New and Used | Supply Post - Canada's #1 Heavy Construction Equipment & Commercial Truck Newspaper

I just chose a random link to a regular lowbed, it is nothing special at all.
I actually feel that I was getting a very good deal on the trailer I ordered. The company building it is so backed up with work they will not be starting it until late January or early February. Heavy haul is special work, requiring special equipment, and lots of experience.
Many people do not even know how to properly chain down a load. The roads I operate on often have me throwing a set of triples on every axle, except for the steering axle that gets singles. As for load binders I use speed binders and a drill now to help, but its still physical work and the more chains the better. I carry 8 1/2" and 10 3/8" chains with me, those alone cost many thousands more.

Price out some different lengths of grade 70 chains and hooks. You need more than you think once you get started. I will not use the cheap binders any more so the good ones are expensive but worth every penny in my opinion.
A heavy duty tractor is not cheap either.
Run on some roads with shale and see how long tires last.
Insurance is not cheap when you are also responsible for the equipment you're hauling which is often $800k or more. You can not skimp on the things you need. Go into HH with your eyes wide open, and don't cut corners on the equipment that you buy. Buy the best, and take it easy on the throttle. Forget about making good time and how many miles you can put on per day. Slow and easy wins the race in HH. When your grossing 185,000 lbs, 15' tall, 12' wide, and on bad roads, which is the most common road type for me to be on, slow down and get to your destination safely. In 32 years of trucking I've been in 1 accident that was my fault where I hit deer on the road. I was also twice rear ended, both times while stopped, the first at a red light and while sitting there a cop slammed into me while playing on his laptop computer instead of paying attention to his driving, and the other was a motorhome that rear ended my trailer while i was in a rest area pull out, sitting at a park bench eating a sandwich. The very elderly gentleman panicked and hit my parked truck. Zero damage to my unit, but wrote the old motorhome off, but thank God no one was hurt.

Ruthless, Oxbow and AModelCat Thank this.
