I’ll let you know in 3 weeks. I’m about to transfer mine. And thanks for the question. Otherwise my birth certificate would have been a few thousand miles away. That would have sucked

Arkansas calls it "Arkansas Voluntary Enhanced Security Drivers License" but it is in fact a Real ID license. They do not issue what Customs calls the Enhanced Drivers License from anything I can determine. Why AR would rename something to what is so easily confused with something completely different, well, I guess that's politics as usual for any government office. Unless that license has an RFID chip with all identifying information, including fingerprints and other biometrics, it is not EDL

EDL 's purpose is to expedite border crossings with a chip that brings up a persons information before they arrive at the window to talk to the border agents. That is why the states that issue the EDL are all located on the norther border. Real ID does not have the chip, and will not be accepted in place of an EDL. A properly issued (CBP/DHS standards) EDL will function for all requirements of a Real ID.

What is an Enhanced Driver's License (EDL)?

Q: Will a federal agency accept my Enhanced Driver's License?
Yes. State Enhanced Driver's Licenses (EDLs) designated as acceptable border-crossing documents by DHS under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative are acceptable for official federal purposes such as accessing a Federal facility or boarding a commercial aircraft. Individual agency policies may still apply.

Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Vermont, and Washington are the only states that currently issue EDLs. For more information on EDLs, please go to www.dhs.gov/enhanced-drivers-licenses-what-are-they.

Call your local DMV and find out the exact answers. Some states are getting caught in red tape.

Right now. Homeland Security (I think it is) is giving the run around. What everybody was told was approved or acceptable. Are now finding out it's not.

Utah asked for birth certs and proof of residency years ago. And licenses got a remake. As per what was asked. Now they're finding out it's not good enough.

Apparently we're supposed to have gold stars on our licenses. And it's going to cost the state $1.4 million to make it right with the criteria they thought was finalized.

The forum might not have an exact answer. Not all states are caught in the mess.

It was local news a couple months back.

Lawmakers push for a quick fix to driver license problem that could prevent Utahns from getting through airport security

Gold stars on Utah licenses will cost millions, lawmakers told

I’m reading what you posted, and the source. And before I go any further, I believe it is correct.

However, there was much to do about licenses issued in Washington. Since corrected if I understand things. But passengers flying domestically were being told (by TSA) it wasn’t a valid ID.

Hell, there were signs all over SeaTac stating that not long ago. But it is my understanding that WA has since been approved or given a waiver.

Real ID act of 2020. Among other things like utitlites paid by yourself in your name to the actual address. I have to renew to that standard in 2019 or lose my license. If I did not go to 2020 act then I will be denied boarding on domestic flights nationwide and denied entry into federal buildings *Such as the VA or military bases etc. Canada would also be at risk.

Arkansas was dragged kicking and screaming into that problem. Fortunately I still have the original from Maryland Archives in my safe.

When I renewed a little over a year ago in Arkansas the lady at the revenue office had to have my birth certificate. The fact that she has known me all my life and could vouch for me didn't matter. She also said I would have to have it next time

Yes,I upgraded to the fancy "Enhanced License".Yes,theyre apparently wanting an original copy of birth certificate.Gotta prove who you are now.You might have been "an imposter" driving 3 million miles for 30 years in thar rig ...LOL If you dont want "the real ID"...the enhanced license will suffice..+ youll Still be able to board an airplane after Nov 2020.

I renewed last year. Didn't need it. But that may have changed since.

Only thing I'm finding online is passport or ss number. For my state.

Everybody needed the time before that though.

Nothing I have states my actual, physical address. Utilities, car registrations, EVERYTHING is run through a PO Box. I haven't received mail here in 14 or 15 years, and don't even have the box at the house anymore. Hell, neither one of my houses have the numbers on them, and the last time I searched myself online, the only physical addresses it spat out were wrong.

As for the CDL, it has both. It HAS to. Law requires a valid mailing address, so they cannot (as much as they'd like to) leave the PO Box off. Law also requires a physical address, so (as much as I'd like to) I can't make them remove it. That is the only thing I've got, though, that has my physical address on it.

Sounds like I'm in for some fun at the DMV next renewal.

I've lived this long without boarding a plane, I really couldn't care less whether my "acceptable" or not for that purpose. It is a driver's license, and only needs to allow me to drive.
