I have been working on my setup for sometime on my 2012 volvo 630 I bypassed the multiplexor and ran new coaxial cable to both sides with 2 new firestick adjustable antennas. I have a uniden bearcat 980 and on the swr meter on the readout it is way over 3+ when transmitting I ran a couple ground wires today and nothing has changed. Should I give up and just get a no ground plane antenna or what should I do to diagnose the current problem? I am at a loss and tired of taking everything apart. Thanks

Please do not take this wrong but you are leaving out some important info, what do you mean "ran new coaxial cable to both sides with 2 new firestick adjustable antennas" I mean be descriptive about it, like you ran two peices of rg-8x (or what ever) to a tee to the two antenna or what ever you did.
KB3MMX Thanks this. -
Ya i ran two Wilson 305-830 with fme connector to a t to my radio.
-
How did you hook them up to the radio?
-
With a t connector
Ancable UHF PL-259 Male to 2 UHF PL-259 Female -
Yep that's the problem. take the tee and one of the coax out of line and you should see the SWR drop a lot.
Dual antennas need a phasing setup, which is not a tee.
Start with one antenna, get that tuned up and see how it works. -
That worked! I hooked up just one antennna and it works great with low swr now! Thanks
