Are MaxxForce engines THAT bad? There is a $20k difference between the MF13 & ISX

Max force trucks are a dime a dozen, lots of problems

 

I've got some questions. Well one to be exact. There's a few trucks local to me for good money. These trucks have been "deleted" are the issues with maxxforce engine solely related to the emissions? Meaning could I pick one of these trucks up that has missing parts and not experience the problems that most are talking about? Or is it still not worth it.

 

I know 2 guys personally that have Maxforce trucks. Both like the truck and motor, but both had deletes done correctly. The issue becomes, when they do need parts, international really sticks it to you. It's gotten better in the last year, but it seems international lost millions on the motor and they're trying to make the money back one part at a time. Only problem with the truck your looking at is you have no idea who did the delete and if it was done correctly.

 

Right. Trying to walk on egg shells here but one looks factory and what I think is a block off plate the other has the same plate but there's stuff crimped and welded shut. Both have the cans but I'm told they are full of nothing but hot air. I've driven one of them and it pulls good idles smooth no smoke of any kind. These trucks don't have def on them either so idk if that makes a difference being that they are deleted as far as year of the engine.

 

I guess mainly what I'm wondering is assuming they were done correctly (and I'd like to talk to whoever did them, I'm mechanically inclined so knowing what needed to be done vs what I see with my own eyes I could verify mechanically it was done right but tuning wise I'm in the dark) would it be worth the investment. If memory serves the trucks are around 16k with sub 500k miles on them.

It's kind of a get me started truck until I can find what I want exactly.

 

Look at Ritchie brothers. They sell for around 16k with 300k miles. Or did 18 months ago. Hell you could do that in two months. If you got two months out of them.

I wonder if lease companies don't sign guys with Max forces?

 

Any engine that requires a machoistic Label like "MAXXFORCE"

implies a maximum application of ######## force marketing incentive to those who hae need of such infantile gratification of having a large stainless steel plate adorning the side of the sleeper MAXXFORCE.

MAXXBS. Such BS. So shiny.

Get away from there. You hurt yourself for sure.

If it's a nice choo choo engine you want, get a pretty CAT. Or a big 700 Detriot, cummings whatever. Just avoid products so badly made that the stink has to be covered by a chrome plate designed to cause truckers with money and no brains to feel a little juice flowing as they once did as teenagers as a inducement to spend a dollar on such a BS engine.

 

I would be worried about a dealer refusing to work on it

 

If you're buying a used Maxforce that's been deleted, the last place you want to take it is the dealer. Why would you want to pay dealer prices anyway?

 

I've run 1 Prostar Maxxforce 13 and 1 Prostar with an ISX 15, all with a 13 speed eaton fuller. The Maxxforce is very Oil hungry... had to put a gallon of oil every 1500 miles in it, and they all finish to leak oil where the turbo and near the oil dipstick is. Where i work we hauled 4 axles 53ft trailer all load with approximately 72k lbs of paper roll, If you don't shift at 1700-1800RPM you'll never gonna have enought power to pull your trailer lol. The maxxforce have the worst jake i've ever use in a truck, and i drove detroit,cummins,cat,volvo and maxxforce. Even in the 3rd speed low when you downhill you can't stop with a 70klbs load. The ISX gave me A LOT of electronical problem, less oil consuming than a maxxforce but for me he gave me a lot more trouble than a Maxxforce.
