I am trying to upgrade from antenna and possibly the radio from my company's 2018 cascadia evolution. The stock antenna's range is very poor(aprox. 1 mile range at best). Also, from what I know the 2018 cascadia has some sort of integrated antenna so I will have to get mirror mounts. The radio is a Cobra 29 LTD Classic. Anyways, I work for a small company and my boss is going to compensate me 100% for what I put towards getting a good cb radio and antenna setup.
Approximately how much would it cost to let a CB shop to install an antenna, run coax cables, and tune the antenna for a decent system? I'm also toying with the possibility of attempting to DIY this. My long term goal is to have a setup that can transmit and receive at least 5 miles out, if not more.

CB Shops usually charge around $60 per hour. Probably looking at a 2 hour minimum plus parts. Coax should be about $50 The antenna will vary $30 - $130. I like Skip Shooter's I'd do a 7' from antennapartsoutlet.com for $32. Mirror bracket is about $25. A new CB will be about $200 for 40 watts. If you have a reputable cb shop that does a correct peak and tune on the Cobra 29 you already have which is a good radio. A 20 watt tune may run $30 and get you about 5 miles (depending on your location). Or, a 40 watt tune should run about $80 and get 5-10 miles (depending on your location).
I don't know how to tell you to run the coax. You Tube maybe your friend on that. You should have no problem getting that 4-5 miles for less than $150. If you order the antenna and mount online. They will be twice as much in the CB shop. -
Just went thru all this.
Coax thru same hole as door wiring. Then out to new Pro Comm mount for latest Cascadia. 7’ Skipshooter antenna.
It’s not easy to get power wiring down thru cabinetry and A-pillars. I’d avoid. Mount CB on dash. Power from passenger side fuse panel leads with both radio leads fused.
Radio is a wide choice of types. I’d prefer to have SSB. A dual final radio wil have sufficient power, the question is more about reception. Ears.
A popular choice of late is the Stryker 955.Moondawg1964 Thanks this. -
My radio is now dash mounted with sticky tape...I had my own coax and pwr/gnd all done through up top but radio just seemed outta the way up there..
Ya know what..Unless you wanna spend big $ on a big radio for what ever reason feel free to but if your not a cb guy, just run factory cobra and your own coax to a better antenna set up..That should get you a good 5-10 mi..Last edited: Oct 3, 2018

The radio you have is just fine assuming it's a new one. The problem is your truck and the antenna system.

Slowmover, can you give details on powering through the fuse panels? I have a 2019 Cascadia that I need to redo the power to my CB.

Power n gnd CAN be run behind the upper cabinets but your gonna end up taken apart the srea where radio sits..I have done it but just didnt like it up there. ..I did post a vid of what i did but cant take the time at the moment to find it...It shows how coax and pwr/gnd were routed..
Moondawg1964 Thanks this. -
Look up the thread called 2018 coax and oower wire routeing...page 4...

CRAIG_SEZ, the truck came with a dash mount option. No wires up in the cabinet area at all. Just need an idea on best way to connect without having to take everything apart.
