    This may be incorrect.

Many companies have in their employee handbook, that you are an "agent" of the company only so far as required to accept freight for carriage as the person in charge of the conveyance.

You are not authorized to enter into contracts on behalf of the company, especially ones involving major expenditures.

A company driver of "30 years", from 1986 to 2001, should already know this.

But in fairness, he probably doesn't remember posting this.

That's a good way to lose your job, or at the very least make the rest of your very short time there a living hell.

So good news is that my truck is finally done, after a new radiator and PTO pump. And after sitting pretty much the whole week the first load they give me is to pick up an empty trailer from next door today and sit on it for 36 hrs before I get loaded 10 miles down the road on Monday morning. Why do they do this? Are they trying to avoid lay over pay? This is really frustrating.

Tempting but will not try this with out getting approval first.

Ya, I understand but the least I would expect them to do is clean out the truck in between drivers and make sure everything works before handing it over. It seems they just rotate drivers out, no fawk given.

Tempting but I need to start making money

I started there fall 2012, but it’s probably still the same.

November/December is the slow time of year at Schneider Bulk, it should pick up beginning of the year.

Yes, they’re probably trying to skirt layover pay. In those situations, I called my DBL and asked if it was OK to change the load to pick up trailer enroute to shipper so I could get layover pay. They always gave the go ahead, but that was after I was established. Not sure if your temp DBL will work with you, but it’s worth a try.

    Update:
They sent me a 1300 mile run far away from home. Completed that yesterday morning. Bob tailed to Walmart down the road and have been sitting since then. Nothing like spending thanksgiving on a walmart parking lot getting $65 a day layover pay. This blows. Don't think they have any load for me until Monday. Am really being turned off from trucking

I feel for you. During my 18 months with snbc I spent 1 thanksgiving at the Erie PA pilot (turkey sub from the subway!), a christmas AND new years at the express tankwash in Perth Amboy. Just hang in there long enough and stay out of trouble and all kinds of doors will open for you.

Ya, I am telling them to route me home for Christmas and new years. It seems everything shuts down on the holidays. I wouldn't mind being out if I was driving and making money. Do you know their bobtail policy if lets say i want to go to the gym few miles down the road?

Welcome to trucking. What you’re experiencing is what it is. There’s more of it where it came from. It’s not for everyone, but it is one of the hardships that bind us truckers together.
No one is a slave here. Everyone is free to leave at anytime. For those of us who stuck it out for years and even decades, it’s nothing more than an annoyance. Hope you have a peaceful thanksgiving.
