For starters all of the research I've done says replace the speed sensor but I did that & it didnt help, now to my problem......I have a '95 KW W900 with a cat 3406e & Eaton 13 speed, so my tach reads about 1000 rpm lower then where it should, my speedo will fluctuate some (just a couple mph, not completly drop to 0 & come back up) & when I step on the accelerator to speed up the speedometer needle actually falls instead of climbs. This is causing my cruise to mess up because if I have it set at say 60 mph & hit a small hill so the truck has to accelerate, the speedo actually drops like I said so the truck thinks its slowing down even more & will take off on me. It will shoot to 75 or better if I let it. So far i have check & changed out the speed sensor, checked the yoke off of the output shaft & looked over whatever wires i can get my hands on between the sensor & ECM. Is there anything else that could cause this?

Did you replace the sensor in the tranny or near the bellhousing for the flywheel?

Could be the other one. I was having similar issues and took the same path. I changed both sensors though. Not sure which one was bad or both.

Its in the flywheel housing just ahead of the bellhousing. If i remeber correctly, it is adjustable (clearance between flywheel and sensor)

I believe your tach reads off the engine timing sensor on left side of engine. I wonder if you have a code in the ecm for data not plausible if so your protections would be limited and considering multiple gauges I would check two things ignition power and ground to cluster and thin chaffed spots along sensor wiring

Most likely the sensor isn't bad what I mean to say is when your road speed and engine speed don't match (often your gear ratios are programmed into the ecm and it uses that data to control cruise) when the two disagree it kicks out cruise or tries to conpensate if you could test deive with cat at or equal program you could tell which part of circuitry to chase

Ive also recently had a stream of cat ecm where the truck side plugs became coroded
