I was replacing a coolant hose on my air compressor and accidently broke a small orange cover (between #5 & #4). Does anyone know if the cover is really important, or should I just leave it as it is?

If the cover was on the pop off valve @ port #2?. No worries, I would leave it off.

I remove them on installation so that if it does pop off it doesn't become a projectile

If your running a lot of off road, put the 25 cent piece of plastic back on. It’s a disgusting feeling knowing something so small could have stopped the rock, that cause the relief valve to stick, which blows something more expensive apart, because the line to your air drier froze up...

    But it’s preference really.

A piece of heat shrink would work or any push on rubber or plastic cap.
