I wondered why drivers would stop for fuel when they need less than 50 gallons to fill but figured they probably drive for one of those carriers that have assigned routes and fuel stops . They will make you stop for fuel if fuel stops on the rest of your route cost 2 cents a gallon more . So with 48 gallons they saved 96 cents and their driver pumps $4 or $5 on the ground to get a shower . I love it .

I wonder that too??? I do suspect that the drivers in question here, wanted/needed the shower a lot more than the fuel(and they wanted it for free NOT $10).

So to be a human being, have a shower, and NOT pay for it to comply with the truckstop policies...and follow company fueling policies. The driver is forced to dump 4-5 gallons on the ground.

    Isn't it insane?

Well , he isn't really forced but it is insane . The sad part is some bean counter is probably getting bonuses for all the alleged fuel savings he reports .

Well I guess not forced... However, if he doesn't pump 4 gal on the ground he will still have to pay $10 for a shower for only purchasing 46 gallons of fuel.

Again, some bean counter is likely giving the truckstop manager a pat on the back for adhering to the strict company 50gal = free shower rule.

    The circle of insanity! LOL

Good rule of thumb: If it's been 48 hours since you've had a full shower, you need one. Period. Depending on the weather and how much non-driving work you do (think "flatbedders strapping/chaining/tarping their loads" and/or "summertime in the South") you may need one every 24 hours.

If you're able to get away with 48 hours between showers, it's still necessary to wash the vital areas on the day in between. Also: shave, brush your teeth and use mouthwash every morning (and brush again before bed). Entirely too many truckers have mouths that look (and smell) like disease pits.

Also: when you use the restroom, WASH YOUR HANDS!

Instead of pumping the fuel on the ground, why not carry a 5-gal. fuel can strapped to the catwalk behind the cab. That way the driver gets the free shower and if they hit the 45-49 gal. mark they're not pumping fuel on the ground. They are also not without fuel at another location if need be. I know that this may not be legal but if it is the can is light enough to rubber snub to the deck like that and leave it there.

    ROFLMAO!

When fuel was peaking at almost $5 per gallon, I saw two 'company' drivers get into a bidding war with a diesel pick-up pulling up to fuel.

    It went like this:

"If you pull behind 'My' truck you can fill for $2 per gallon"... Then, the guy beside him says, "If you pull behind 'My' truck you can fill for $1.75 per gallon". Which led the other guy to say, "$1.50" etc etc. I think it ended with the guy filling his diesel pick-up for $1.25 per gallon.

The truck just pulled ahead, didn't turn off the pump and let the four wheeler fill on the 'company' dime... then charged him cash. I couldn't help to think, I could use a diesel pick-up... LOL

To top it off, these 'company' drivers had NO shame in doing this in front of everyone. :biggrin_25512: (Fuel bonus anyone?) LOL!

Again, the insanity knows no bounds!
