I went directly to the Swift website to see about becoming a driver. I talked to a recruiter and it sounds like a good place to start.
I've never driven a truck, but it has been something I've been wanting to get into for a career. How is the training, class time and info? And staying with them as a company driver? Just a few questions I was wanting to ask to start.
Swift to start a career?

Suprised, they are supposed to be in the middle of a hiring freeze. You have just opened up one more opening in the trucking business. They no longer have to advertise, just accept a pre-hire. Worth about $1,000,000 a month according to Con-way latest release. (smile)

They are still hiring people with no CDLs to attend their school...

I just completed orientation with Swift last week. I went to their driving academy in Millington, TN Jan 26th. After two weeks at their school, you head back to your home terminal for a week of road training. This starts on a Monday and they will take you to your state DMV that friday to get your CDL.. For example, my home terminal is Gary, IN but I am from Illinois. So, I was paired with two other Illinois drivers and they took us to Morris, IL to test.
I am in the process of waiting for my mentor to unload so I can meet up with him. He is snowed in on the east coast right now. Once I get on his truck I will be on it for 42 days.
After that, I head back to my home terminal (Gary) for three days of testing. Two of those days are for flatbed testing as I got hired on as a flatbedder. Once all of that is complete I will be given my own truck and cleared for solo. -
How are there road tests during oreintation. Graduate school in first part of December havent been in a truck since then. Should off been but got screwed over by another company, but anyways just wondering how hard the were.
