Union yes on local, yes on line haul. Other than union, hard to say. get some OTR experience and get on at UPS, $30/hr pretty sweet. there really is no regional except in full truckload. LTL is line haul from terminal to terminal.bottomdumpin and CJ701 Thank this.

Depends upon the company. Interstate trucking is exempt, as is agriculture and some other trucking related industries. That doesn't mean a good company won't pay OT. Hell, even within a company, one division might be straight time while another pays OT. A lot of it will depend upon how difficult it is for them to find drivers...if qualified applicants are lined up around the block, they have no motivation to pay OT if they are otherwise exempt. If the company can't seem to find people willing to do the job, the likelihood of OT pay goes up considerably...even if it would otherwise be exempt on multiple levels.

Yes, I retired from the US Postal Service as a driver in Chicago area. Retired making $29/hr. Usually got 10 hours 1 1/2 a week. anything over 12 was double time. 12 hour days 7 days a week in December. It is the best...But most boring driving job I ever had.bottomdumpin, CJ701, MartinFromBC and 2 others Thank this.

It’s easier than you think. Don’t look at any Megas, find a smaller company. 10-20 trucks willing to hire a newbie. A distribution company or some kind of wholesaler. Don’t bother with a general frieght company. You should be able to land $18+ an hour with ot after 40 pretty easily.
BigDog Trucker, street beater and CJ701 Thank this. -
I haul fuel in Alaska in winters. Hourly with as much OT as I want up to 84 a week

I’m on an hourly gig.
With no experience you’re going to have a hard time, but they’re definitely out there. Also a lot of salary positions. Hourly or salary is most likely gonna be something local..
figuring out what area to build your experience is really the bigger question you should be thinking about. Or just getting any experience at all...
Why worry about pay when you’re at the absolute bottom for experience .
You don’t even know if you’ll like trucking yetstillwurkin Thanks this. -
Yes, If you search for it instead of doing what MOST newbies do. Repeat after me, "I have to start somewhere so I'll ignore all of the complaints about Punch Me In The Mouth Trucking, Inc and choose their Never-Get-Home hometime plan and their Bankrupt-By-Christmas pay plan."Metallica88 Thanks this.
