    Hi there

I’m in the process of signing on with Landstar soon to be sent to orientation (Burlington, ON?)...
The recruiter who’s working on my file advised me to obtain a FEIN and file for a 2290 thru Permit Services, which will take 2-3 weeks, while they finalize everything on their part.

So is my understanding correct that even if I attended orientation tomorrow I’d still have to wait until I receive a stamped copy of schedule 1 before Landstar can get my truck plated&insured which could possibly take another week or two?
Am I really looking at one more month of waiting and getting deeper into debt?

Yes. You are pretty much correct. Although I don't think you can attend orientation until you have your permit book, truck plated and lettered. It is a slow process getting started here!

Sounds like it’d be a good idea to do a few runs with my pops as a team driver while waiting on Landstar. Shouldn’t have quit my job in the first place. 30-day process they said...

I started the process while I was still @ my previous company which was a pain in the ### while on the road. Finally came to the do or don't point and it was still a month to get on and through orientation. Then a week or so to get a Mt van. Are you going to be pulling their trailer?

That’s the plan. A week to get an MT van is tolerable. I’ve read on this forum that others have waited for months till “trailer utilization” tracked an MT down for them. I just hope it’s all worth it.

Van has been slower lately, so I would guess they would be able to find you one quickly. No promises on if it will be worth it or not. What part of Ontario are you out of?

I’m from the Prairies. Regina, SK. Been hauling for Ontario based carriers though. They didn’t seem to care and I certainly didn’t since my pay was close to .20cpm more than what the local companies were offering.
