i am just about to graduate from truck driving school, i already have my class A license, hazmat, doubles/triples, and tanker endorsements, so does my partner, what is the best company out there for team drivers just starting out with no experience? i was leaning towards werner and transport america, but after just reading a post about how werner doesn't give you good miles i am kinda hesitant to go with them. any help would be appreciated.

The major OTR carriers won't allow you to start as a team . They'll split you up and put you with trainers . I did read a post by a husband/wife team that got hired right out of school by an expedite fleet owner . I don't remember if it was for Panther or FedEx Custom Critical .

It all depends what kind of career you want in trucking. Do you want to be a flat bedder, dry freight, Reefer, or what ever. I started with Florida rock and tank lines in there lube oil division it was a great company to start with, Auctualy I was still in the Army burning up my vacation time. I finished up my training and was doing good for a few weeks and during the 4th of July I sat at home for 4 days. I got scared and quit. I had been in the Army my whole adult life and just didn't know any better. Now I am a gas hauler I wish I would have stayed.

i know we will be split up at first to go with trainers, but after that i know we will be able to team up. as far as freight goes, we are both willing to haul anything, not sure where the most money is in tho. what would you suggest?

Forget getting the most money . Be thankful (or maybe not ) if you can both get hired . I've heard many teams can't even get 3,000 miles a week .

is it better to start off solo then?

In the state of the economy, it's better to go to college and find a different career right now man.
I know, sounds like a pessimistic thing to say but it's just the facts currently, you are looking at 300-400 dollar a week checks right now with the lack of freight.
IF you could get hired by them, Conway Truckload team freight is probably the strongest out there, I ran teams for them when I was OTR and even when solo freight had dropped off to 1500 miles a week, we were still knocking out 6-7000 miles per week.
Either way, good luck to you man. -

or you could drive a dump truck and make $1200 a week. alledgedly. -
That is a senseless statement because we all know they couldn't . How about you , Chief ? How much money do you allegedly make ?

You know what man, you just BEG for this so here it is, this is my last WEEKS paycheck, 5 loads to Longview Bridge are not on there because they haven't paid us yet but I think you get the picture! This is five days worth of work.
I have 0 reason to lie to you, I will post SS statements with my ssn removed if you would like, in the past 12 years my income has ranged from 22k a year to as much as 108k a year. Why would I lie to impress someone I don't even know? I simply try to make helpful and FACTUAL advice and it seems to hurt your feeling. Maybe YOU can't make this much money driving a belly dump, but I do.Last edited by a moderator: Mar 8, 2009
