Go try Roehl. They offer decent training, but be careful of the first day stress test. It measures the drivers heart rate to a set percentage of driver age. It took me and one other person out of class on the first day. They did give me the option to stay and complete training with them, however it would have meant paying 2800 cash in three days time. They only have 6 people per class session and form what I learned from other driver there. If they don't like your record or what they find about you they won't even call you back. They are getting very picky about new trainees. I was also told that I could try again in 6months. The instructor said that from a saftey stand point I might be able to do the job but not for them, because my heart rate got too high during the test.

I'm just south of Minneapolis/St. Paul in Minnesota. Roehl is just 3 hours drive from me, so that makes it a good fit in that way.

Now, the only thing that I am wondering now about them is if they are really strict with their financing. From what I read on their site, they "offer tuition assistance(if you're eligible)." Which, my credit is total crap, does that mean they aren't going to be an option for me?

So.....no smoking before the testing. Sounds like the physical stuff is tough to get past. That is a little bit of a concern that I have in the back of my mind. I'm 6' 2" 350 lbs, so I'm a big guy. Kind of a worry since I have no idea what my blood pressure is or what to expect with the testing.

I know I can do the job without physical problems, just a matter of them seeing that. Hell, this winter I pulled off 25+ hours straight of driving with no problem(yes I know that would be illegal with truck driving).

You might want to check with your Doctor or at least look into the DOT Physical requirements. I am getting close to your size and am constantly monitoring my blood pressure. Too high and that will stop your oreintation real fast.

Since you said that, I just looked up the requirements. I'll probably go see what my stats are just to check. I know I have never had any issues before, and no mention of anything, so I'm pretty certain I'm good to go. But might as well make sure.

You saying that you are constantly monitoring your blood pressure....does that mean that you are a little close for comfort?

I have been driving for a few years and the best advice I can give you is to send an application to each of them and see who will hire you. So many companies are on a freeze right now (regardless what their site says) that maybe only one of them will taKE you and that will make your decision for you. That being said.....
    STAY CLEAR OF SWIFT !!!!!!!
I am going to post a dozen reasons why in a week or so when I quit but prefer not to until that time. Personally, I'd try Roehl first. This is the worst possible time to get into this industry but if you're set on it, fill out apps for anyone that CLAIMS to be hiring, see who calls back and there you go.
BOL to you, you can do it.

wiseguy, on smoking and no coffee. also when you see a doctor about a physical, have them do an exertion test to get you pulse rate up, the cut off for me was 171 bpm, I'm 5' 10" and 210lbs. not little , but not a big guy either. Roehl tried to get me financing, I have terrible credit as well and needed a co-signer. With the co-signer we got it just fine. If you don't make it in the first three days, they charge you nothing and refund the remaining balance of the hotel as well as part of the processing and testing fees.
