I know this is gong to sound elementary to some. However the best way to get that 2 year card and KEEP IT is to keep ALL your labs in the norms. Get plenty of exercise and stop eating that garbage. I know that some drivers make temp changes before their physical then go back to eating garbage and not exercising. If your not a diabetic eating some carbs should not cause spikes in Blood Sugar. Also not everybody develops high blood pressure from consuming sodium. However these 2 things are causing drivers to get 1 year or less cards all the time. As a driver starts to be 40something their ability to eat junk and it not effect their labs starts to drop. I tell drivers to do these 3 things. 1. Fast before the physical regardless. 2 Severely limit consuming processed foods. 3 Get exercise. Today as my health allows I get out and walk. I have almost stopped eating processed food and I don't drink colas of any kind. My labs are all normal, my blood pressure is actually a bit low and my A1C was under 6 last labs I had. The FMCSA is getting tougher. That medical card is as important as your CDL. For most of you it is your livelihood. I would highly suggest protecting it!

Nice post above. With respect to sodium, I would like to point out that salt is good for us and salt consumption cannot cause hypertension. This is an impossibility and if you don't believe me ask any medical doctor.

I'm not going to debate my post with you. There is some small difference's between salt and sodium. NOWHERE in that post did I say anything about salt! Cutting down on the processed foods consumed has been PROVEN to reduce high blood pressure!Paddlewagon Thanks this.

Carbohydrates and sugars are the real enemy28 Thanks this.

I think my point is being misunderstood. Get and keep you labs within the recommended levels OF EVERYTHING! ALL OF IT! The older a driver gets the more important it is to have labs taken at least one time a year.

Every time you see a doctor there is a chance they will diagnose you with cancer. I avoid them if I can.

Made my visit to my endocrinologist Monday am, and had my DOT physical Monday afternoon...all cleared and ready to go for the next 12 months. So much easier then the previous process. I’ve been a diabetic since I was 10, and have been using insulin pump therapy the past 20nyears. Zero health effects from the diabetes.
Eating right and minimal exercise has kept me in great health (stairs over elevators every Time) lol
Looking forward to this late life career change.bottomdumpin Thanks this. -
Just go get an A1C done. Then go back and get your two year card.
You can set up tests online: Request a Test is one.
Remember what Dr. Bernstein (the expert) says: If you want to get better with diabetes. Don’t listen to your doctor.

My BP is controlled by meds. I’ll never get a 2 year card.
