where did that come for just out the blue
No, it comes from that little green and white book some wheel turners think is a paper weight.
-
it came for orientation

I have been at Melton for over two years and as long as you have reasonable communication, deliver on time and safely, you will be successful. As for those who are saying that they WANT to run you minimal miles, are you stupid? They get paid for the miles they run just like you do! Of course they want to run you as many legal miles as they can! It is more likely that you sitting and lack of miles is due to YOUR lack of communication. How can they give you runs if they don't know what runs they can give you. They tell you up front that if you want miles you are going to have to communicate with them and keep them updated of your hours so that they can give you legal dispatches. If you don't do that, you probably are not successful there!

And how is a scale ticket out of your control? Learn your rig and it's weight. Know what they are loading and it's weight. TELL them where to load it. Then go and scale it it to be sure. I had one load that the shipper didn't want my input as they loaded it. Required me to be in the cab while it was done. After scaling my load and it was out I went back and made them move it to MY specs. It reweighed just fine. It's flatbedding. You have to know your rig. 10.04.2008 06.48 PMhappypappy25 Thanks this.

I would choose Arrow, TMC, or Maverick for a flatbed newbie. I drive for Arrow currently and I am very happy.

This post is to those who are asking about Melton from a company drivers standpoint. I ran for Melton for 9 months. I never had to wait for more than 24 hours for a load and that was rare. I had them deadhead me 1000 miles before to get me back into the traffic lanes. They pay you what they owe you. You don't have to audit every single check to be sure. ( And yes I worked for some that you'd better audit every single one). Benefits are excellent. You get one day off for every week out. If you tell them you want to be home on a given day at a specific time: get real, it's trucking. But they do get you home when you let them know ahead of time so they can plan your loads. Sit and wait on loads? Yes. But no more than other carriers. They don't preplan loads because you may not be available when you thought you would. Crane wasn't at the consignee to get you unloaded etc. When you are m/t send message on qualcomm and you go on the list. You MUST communicate with your dispatcher. If you do and are consistantly on time and safe, you will get loads and be a happy camper. As I stated I only left to take a local job, and I'm thinking hard about going back.

I didn't realize you worked for Melton at one time. I was there for almost 4 years.
And yeap, you are right, they are big on logs, and safety. I didn't see 50 for tarp pay, but they did pay me $40. no matter what tarp I had to use.
They kept me running pretty good through the years.
I only have positive to say about them myself.

You accepted the load and I am sure you signed a paper in orientation saying it was your responsibility. The load is the drivers responsibility. Youshould know how much you weigh empty and how much you can haul. Once you sign for the load, it's yours.
