just graduated CDL school, any advice appreciated.
I have 4 pre hire offers and ive narrowed it down to my 2 favorites, a local flatbed company about an hour from home offering me .42 cents per mile, and a mega carrier bout 4 hours from home offering me a dedicated run that pays ~1000 per week.
they both sound good but im inexperienced so idk. the mega does offer a better tuition reimbursement and sign on bonus so it may be the better overall pay starting out
the local flatbed company's orientation starts tomorrow, and the mega is in 10 days. would it be terrible to say yes to the mega's orientation and have it as a backup incase i get sent home from the local flatbed orientation? would any of that go on my dac record?
If i chose the mega carrier only, and cancelled the faltbed orientation the day before, would that go on my dac?
thanks y'all
Trouble deciding which orientation to go to

Hmmmm it sounds like a good problem to have. Does the local flatbed company travel everywhere?
-

Your new so whatever you do you need to make sure it counts as Over the Road experience. The local flatbed company.. Is that Over the road or Local?
-
Both are OTR and potentially nationwide. But both told me i would primarily travel near my home state, but i could go further and have the option to stay out longer.
Whoops. Meant to reply this to brian21384 as wellLast edited: Dec 8, 2018

OTR, both are OTR.
The mega carrier is out 3 weeks, home 3 days with the option to stay out longer.
The flatbed company is out 2 weeks, home 2 days with the option to stay out longer -
Thank goodness. This is the way I'm leaning atm.
I am feeling like the mega may be a better starting point for me, and after i get a couple years experience OTR, i could go into flatbedding if i want to. -
My first OTR company was Werner and I was out for 3 weeks home for 4 days... its more less what you want.. I'd choose the dedicated myself cause its guaranteed and Dry van I assume?... Flatbed is hard work, I use to haul coils and lumber, always had to tarp even in cold weather..

I'd go with the local one then.....me personally, I like smaller companies

Thanks for the input, everyone. This all really helps.
Bryan21384, the local flatbed is close to me but they still are a pretty large company that runs nationwide with a good amount of turnover (from what ive gathered). Still a good company, and maybe i will come back to them in the future..
Leaning towards the mega dedicated atm. I added everything up and I'd have to average over 2500 miles a week with the flatbed company to get weekly what I'll get running dedicated. And thats before the sign on bonus and tuition reimbursement.
Going to call the flatbed company and let them know Ive changed my mind this afternoon.
