I would like to know why anybody would stay with a mega carrier for 10 years?. It’s called a starter company for a reason it’s to get started and gain experience so you can do something better. And there are better opportunities in trucking than the megas. I don’t intend to stay at swift more than 2 years max, I may leave after a year depending on how things are going.

Many drivers stay at a mega until they retire.
One recently retired after 55 years at one of them.
Many drivers lose their perspective as to where they fit in with a company. Keep it in perspective and remember, you're a blue collar worker and your job is to drive the truck.

Just talk to a guy here at jurupa terminal. And he has been here for 25 yrs. Gonna retire he says.
I find it funny when people try to dictate what others should do.
I actually like swift and probably will retire here if no more health issues arises.

I met a driver with Schnieder. He had been with them 35 years. There are many reasons why someone would stay at a mega. You can get your truck repaired without any fuss...."Just go to the TA." Loads, most big companies are drop and hook....live loads are rare. Benefits, megas can afford to pay them. Equipment, most megas are operating the newest of the newest and switching out quickly. Dedicated runs, how many small companies do you see pulling Walmart or dollar general trailers? Compliance....yes many micromanage, but you won't have to worry crossing a scale, if you even have to since so many have prepass

There's no shame if Swift is a fit for you. If the money is good enough for you to make a living, great!!! If their operations work for you, great! If they are treating you well, why leave?

Many people fear change and maximizing their earning potential isn’t a priority.

I hear what you're saying. I said on another thread some time ago that I liked my experience at Western Express. I only left for more money. That's really been the only reason I've ever switched companies. I've only worked for 4 OTR companies and 1 of which I stayed 5 years.

    In no particular order:

    1) The yard is 10 minutes from where I CHOOSE to live.

    2) I get treated with respect. My DM, his boss, his boss' boss and his boss' boss' boss all know me by name.

    3) I am paid a competitive wage.

    4) I am never pushed to run illegal - hours or equipment .

    5) I am home when I am supposed to be.

    6) I have not found another gig where I earn the same or more with the same or less work.

sometimes, the fit is just right.

sometimes, people just are not prone to continually shop around

sometimes, what one see's as abuse, is because he doesn't like being bossed around, where another accepts that he is a worker, and this doesn't mean he accepts any abuse, but he accepts that he has a boss. no matter where YOU GO, you will always have a boss......even married, YOU HAVE a boss.

sometimes, one can earn more money by not job hopping, and staying put, regular pay raise DO HAPPEN.
