Panic attacks/Anxiety is only better when you are treated with the right medication.

I realize finding the right medication can result in your doctor having to experiment with certain meds to find the right one. This can result with more nervous behavior to personality swings to your episodes of increased anxiety.

Doctors like to put patients on drugs that are not addicting, because the federal governement is coming down on alot of doctors for writing to many prescriptions for addicting medications.

Prozac, Zoloft, Elavil, and others that are anti-depression medications are used for panic attacks but with little relief. (depending on the person, of course). Suffering with Panic attacks and having to go through side effects with medications that don't help much, can only make one feel worse.

So, communicating with your physician is essential, especially when he wants to experiment with you on finding the right medication.

Sometimes the meds are not acceptable as in my case....Drugs or continue to work.

How I beat it was a combination of exercise, establishing challenges, and establishing routines. My family knew what I was going through and understood to stand by but, not coddle me either. You can take all the drugs you want to counter the chemical imbalance, but your state of mind and positive outlook are your greatest weapons to win the war.

    AGREED!
Wasn't saying Medication for all. I was posting experiences with Doctors and prescriptions written for Anxiety issues in some cases.

I feel like some of the times were are used for Testing purposes (Ginny Pigs, if you will) when prescriptions are thrown at us to take for our problems.

Our bodies having certain symptoms for a certain illness, can be increased if given medications that only aggravate the issue at hand.

Good call. My wife had her problems with people, and it was solved by being before people, and some counseling. Drugwise, we've seen the doctors (who don't really have much clue to what they're doing) throw medicines at her like a guessing game, and often got her sick. She was born with some physical problems and had surguries; now has become pharmaceutically dependent.
I got her to start training at the gym; it has done her more good than all the doctors in the last 20 years, and she looks, feels, and IS better for it. It, like for Ron-Mars, helped immensely with the anxiety and the attacks disappeared.

Every doctor I have ever been to has recommended exercise. The problem I hate it! All of it. There are only two things I enjoy which may be counted as exercise: skiing and swimming. I haven't had the money to ski in 3 years and since I developed Meniere's (vestibular disorder) I am afraid to swim.

As I mentioned in a previous post I do enjoy yoga and it helps to relax me but it's not what I would call real exercise. :biggrin_25512:

GA/P: good to see you're still around. One thing about exersize is it's addiction. It's hard to start, but also hard to stop. You hate to miss a workout, but once you miss a week or more, it's hard to start again.
Consistency is the key to results, and to staying with it.

1st and foremost-NO ONE EVER DIED FROM A PANIC ATTACK! You may feel like you are having everything from a stroke to heart attack and any thing else you can think of. You need to learn some breathing techniques and also exercise is very good. You may require Xanex or other for awhile, but I would wean myself off them as soon as possible. Once you are confident that you are going to survive you can talk to your attack-give me your best shot you SOB. You can't kill me or even hurt me. Only scare me.

There is infomercial for Midwest Center on TV. My sister is Psychologist and she has started recommending it to some of her patients. I have seen it and it is good.
You are not the 1st nor will you be the last to have panic attacks. Once you realize you are not some freak you will be able to deal with them and more than likely eliminate them all together. Also has some questions to help you determine if you have depression. That is a whole other problem and can eventually kill you. But as with anxiety, millions of other people have it and no one should ever feel shame. You didn't ask for it. But you must deal with it. Be patient and have faith in yourself. You will be ok.
    Good luck.
