yeah, there are a few companies w/ terminals in nc. what type of trailer do u want to pull?
-
Watkins and Sheppard have a terminal up from you in Hickory, you live about 25 minutes away there in Lincolnton up 321. You could come home every night after orientation there, lol.
-
either van or reefer no hazmat
-
with Watkins Sheppard i was told orientation is in NJ
-
This is true. I started with them in Oct under the impression that I'd be going to orientation in Hickory.... but ended up being sent to NJ. No big deal to me though.
-
how did u go up to nj? did u get a tractor from there also?
-
Wow didn't know they had stopped the Hickory orientation. I chose Roehl over them last year but Bonnie from W/S had said I would be in Hickory for the orientation if I chose to go with them. Guess they don't do it there anymore. That's a long trip to Jersey.
-
How is Roehl? every company ive applied for or got a reference for said there not hiring. at this point if Schneider or any company can get my rolling again id go. getting bored at home..
-
I put almost 7 mos. in with Roehl and then got a local job here in Hendersonville 2 miles from my house. My miles were awful with Roehl back in October when I left. I never felt the pay I made at Roehl justified giving my life up and being away from home, but that's what OTR is all about. I come home every evening about 4 or 5 o'clock now and am free to do what I wish until the next morning and weekends off.
Roehl wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. Mediocre starting company is the best way I could put it describing them in one sentence. Even living in NC I spent more time than I cared to up north in WI, Chicago area, etc. I was national van but it seemed I had to drive around Chicago at least once a week.
Most of my loads seemed to run north and south. Typical time out was leave home here in NC take load up to Gary, IN. Load from Gary going to somewhere in WI. WI back down to Chicago or Gary or somewhere in OH. Load up there heading south to Florida a lot of times. Load from FL up to Georgia or SC. Load in GA or SC heading to northeast to Jersey or Mass. Another load either heading west to Ohio or IN, or back south again to SC, GA, or FL and then something heading back to the house. I got to know I-75, I-95, and I-65 very well, lol!
If I had to do it all over again I would have picked W/S or Schneider. Roehl isn't horrible, but they wouldn't be my 1st choice if I had a 2nd time around.sodbuster03 Thanks this.
