Which is better if you want to run long-haul highway express bus into Commiefornia - Detroit DD13 or Volvo D13? Both with Allison B500R with Jake Brake.
Outside Commiefornia I prefer pre-EGR.

Wow, is DD13 really that much better? If it's good for a reefer truck it's probably good for a bus because reefers usually don't need to tug heavy over hills.
-
DD13 can be worked on at Detroit diesel . Freightliner. Western star and many independent shops ... volvo gets worked on at volvo ... hands down the DD13 is far easier to find better service at a better price than volvo
Swadian Thanks this. -
I like the DD13 better, it sound's better, but they like to leak oil and have a few issues. The D13, you can look at the engine and it's clean.
Longevity? I'd say the Volvo engine. I don't know if you'd get 500-700k out of a DD13 before something goes wrong with it.
If I were to trade the Detroit before warranty or 500k, I'd probably consider one. Anything more, I'd keep going. I would take the DD13 over the ISX though.Swadian Thanks this. -
DD13 for the win, then!
-
The DD13 coach seats up to 60, and the D13 coach up to 56 passengers, but the D13 coach can be found on the used market for much less whereas the DD13 coach is pretty much only available as new order.
What about MPG highway? -
Detroit is a wayyy better motor overall and I would guess have more longevity as well. But maintenance locations are priceless (ironically im sitting in a rental truck haha) And reefers do often pull heavy.
-
Well, DD13 won poll by landslide. Any objections?
-
I know I was 1 of the Volvo votes.
How will this help you? 100pct voters use a truck and no clue about a coach. Also what year will the bus be? And transmission configuration wasn't even used as a factor.Swadian Thanks this. -
