couple TMC questions

i know the cat c15 is a great motor, but that big red cummins is a very powerful beast also, we used cats, volvos, and cummins at fedex, drove all, but really liked bigred the best, the torque was great,, and the pulled really well, we pulled of average 39 to 43 thousand pounds which put us close to gross, just a thought, for you cat lovers

 

i have noticed alot of drivers from central north carolina, shout out to you fellow tarheelians, GO DEVILS

 

I'm definetly a cummins fan, Obviously I have a dodge with one in it "pushin right at 500hp" Yeah it's a money pit . But in big trucks I prefer CATS only because they seem to pull harder down low than cummins. IMO

 

Off to orientation the 16th. What have I got myself into "again"

 

hey sodbuster, you in orientation on the 16th to, i fly out sunday afternoon, get there around 2045 or so, look for ya there, oh yeah what have we got ourselves into......

 

How long of an orientation will you have? Dennis said 5 days for me. What cracks me up is with 14 yrs of exp he's talking bout two weeks with a trainer. Dont get that, last 8 years I've been hauling heavy equipment, shouldnt that be qualifing flat bed exp. Guess bc it's not OTR. Haven't been otr since 97

 

The problems with the 6.0 were the result of Ford modifying the software so the horsepower would match the Cummins 5.9 and the Duramax . The IH lower hp versions didn't have the problems .

 

Ford may have got the HP numbers to match the 5.9 but they will never get the reliabilty to match. Regaurdless we had Three IH dump trucks with the 530E motors in them & all of them had programing problems from day one, don't think Ford had much to do with that. One was soo bad it was lemon lawed with less than 60k on the clock. Granted IH made some good motors. DT466's are allmost indestrecdible not much on power though. I personally have had two fords with the old 6.9 great running trucks. Had one 7.3 powerstroke but after driving a friends dodge I had to get one & have had it since 02. Guess my point is IH just don't have there game togther with much of the modern electronics, I figure they end up with the lower level enginers,ones that aren't smart enough to work for the other companies. Again just my opinon but with my exp dealing with IH's computer controlled motors I belive it's on point. One truck is one thing but all 4 that we had having the same problems?

 

john says mine ore is 5 days, trainer possible for possable 2 weeks, depends on how well you score of load securement during oriientation, as also does your road test.

 

I saw another trainer/trainee on the road this week who were in the same situation. The trainee had something like 20 years of experience hauling oversize cast concrete loads. His trainer said he learned a lot from his trainee, but the company wants to make sure he knows how to do regular size loads and more importantly I'm sure, how to do things their way. He still has to do two weeks, I think that is pretty much set in stone.

Sodbuster if you have been hauling HE for the past 8 years you already have more experience than the absolute tool who runs load securement. Whatever you do, treat every word he says as gospel at least until you are out of his class. He is an ignorant vindictive prick who will not tolerate questions, but the class is only a few days, I just wish I knew this beforehand myself. Good luck to both of you guys!
