Hey Wayne, thanks for the call and all the great advice. I had already done all the driving I was going to do for today, but I am going to take it out for a couple of hours at least tomorrow and practice what you said.

Today I took it to the gear range that my CDL school used; industrial area with no traffic, just to get familiar with the Super 10 and going up and down through all the gears. I really need work on gear recovery, especially when coming up to a light and traffic starts flowing again. A couple times I just had to stop and start over. Then I drove it home from Charlotte to Monroe which is about 25 miles on 74 with traffic. It's getting much better. Tomorrow I'll try only using the clutch to start off.

I'm going out there to put the bed together and install some stuff, try to organize. I'll be back on in a bit if you're up.

bbigcnote I didn't see that on the dash. I'll check around the back, but I doubt it. There was some product someone mentioned once, I forget the name, but it was basically a built in scale that gave you your weight. It wasn't too pricey and I'm definitely interested in looking into it.

I'll snap some pics of the dash for you guys in case I'm missing something.

How many days on average are you going to have to float before you get paid for the loads with your new gig?

That's a good question, and it has a lot of answers.

Remember that you can always use outside factoring companies to get paid quickly, but at a cost. There will be no shortage of offers.

That said, the company I am using is one-stop shopping. They offer pretty much everything including in-house factoring. I can get paid a variety of ways depending on whether I want to sacrifice some of the money.

For the MAXIMUM profit, pay would be 2 weeks, or whatever Wednesday falls after the closing period. But, it's not quite that simple. If I don't want to pay ANYTHING, I have to let them mail me a check to my home address and who knows when I will get back there to get it, but if you have someone at home it could work, but figure probably closer to 3 weeks.

If I want to bump that up to a week wait, then it's 2% of gross. And if I want it "same day" it's 3%.

So what is same day? Well regardless of how I take my pay, if I want it wired to my bank account, it's $25 charge (on top of percentage), even if I wait the 2 weeks to pay nothing.

Also, nothing starts until I get the paperwork to the office. So lets say I take "same day" pay. I have the paperwork and note it. I then have to MAIL it to them. This can be overnight for what, $12? Priority for $5.15, then a wire fee of $25 and it still takes a couple days for arrival and processing, and do I really want to mail in paperwork after EVERY job or do I want to send in a few at a time? So 2 week free pay can easily take up to 4 weeks.

Ok so if I want same day or even advance pay, I can use an outside factoring company that will probably ask for 10-20%, and yes apparently they get it from a lot of people. So TRY to float as long as you can. You don't absolutely have to, but you'll make the most money if you can wait.

They do cover the fuel though and deduct it from settlements, so at least you can minimize your actual outlay while waiting. Main thing is to make sure I can make my truck/trailer/insurance payments on time.

I take it you didn't get permission from the property owner/manager to park there?

No, but it was saturday evening, It probably won't be any property managers complaining. If that's my worry I won't be as worried. Will probably have to wait until Monday to even think of contacting them.

Were there any signs saying that unattended vehicles or vehicles parked longer than "X" hours would be towed?

No, not that I've seen. I have no good reason to believe it should be towed. I just don't know the rules for commercial vehicles on commercial property. But I also know I have no commercial purpose for parking there. If it was my car, I would expect that at worst it would get stickered and I would have 3 days or so to move it.

I'm thinking, without signs stating otherwise, you should be okay. Still, I would check with management.
