I went there at 35. I was burned out on trucking, so UPS was a final hail mary. It went much better than expected, for me.

This overtime/tax argument drives me insane. You are still taking home more money when you work overtime. Its not like your entire overtime wage is sent to the IRS.

I would never fault anyone for picking quality of life and home time over money, I may be making that decision in a few years, but I feel like the whole "well I dont want to make more money because I'll have to pay more taxes" argument is just something people tell themselves to justify not working as much as they could.

Believe it or not, yes, i would rather work food service than small pack. It's that bad---for me. Now, i didn't say ANY food service in general, but food service places i've worked at before.

But the point is moot as there is no more going over to small pack. Orders from corporate.

i cannot and do not wish to comment on that for now.

When you go into a higher tax bracket, you are only taxed at the higher rate beginning at the amount that PUTS you into the higher bracket. Not your whole gross income. Example: IF the higher bracket begins at say $50,000, then for the amount of 0-49,999 you're still taxed at the lower bracket and only anything above 50,000 would be the higher bracket. (i think?)

From what I remember of your UPS Freight posts a year or so ago you really didn’t like them either. Have the pay progression increases changed your opinion?

That's correct. For single filers, for instance, after subtracting exemptions and deductions (probably taking the standard deduction) you'll pay:

10% on the dollars earned up to $9,525
12% on the dollars between $9,526 and $38,700
22% on the dollars between $38,701 and $82,500
and 24% on the dollars earned above that.

There are more brackets, but I think it's safe to assume none of us makes over $157,500!

This is a commonly misunderstood subject. Nobody should ever worry about making more money and earning way less money after taxes than they would've before the raise or better job, etc. You'll always pay more in taxes the more you earn, but you'll never wipe out a raise that "puts you in a higher tax bracket."

I'd love to be in a higher tax bracket. Bring it on.

I get so disheartened when I hear people talk about not wanting to make more money because it will put them in a higher tax bracket. They don't go back and retroactively tax your previous income. They only tax what you make above a threshold at that threshold's tax rate.
