My drivers are military veterans and a lot of my passengers are also, so they like long guns and want to carry them. Carrying a loaded gun on a passenger bus is unsafe, and it's illegal to carry them loaded in a vehicle in Nevada.

So that why guns and why unloaded.

Coach is for-hire, not private. Homeland Security do check buses, but as long as the guns are legal, shouldn't be a big deal? Federal law doesn't prohibit it and carrying long gun on vehicle is legal in both Nevada and Arizona. So it's down to company policy (myself)?

Isn't it legal to carry a gun on a public bus, even those potentially accessible to children and felons?

I asked an expert; the answer is that yes, you can carry a long gun on a bus in NV and AZ without CCW, but it must be unloaded in NV, and if a passenger does it and breaks the law, the passenger will be responsible, not the motor carrier. Long gun does not have to be in plain sight. It is perfectly legal, so there is no need to worry about police or CBP finding it on the bus, as long as it is declared to police/CBP if/when one is stopped for an inspection.

Whoever is carrying the gun is responsible for keeping it from children and felons; not the motor carrier. I'd only be responsible if I'm the one carrying the gun.
