No I didn't really have to pay for the kit up front. I could have gotten it. I just decided hopper was safer and just as productive. It does save me money on the kit over the year too though, so that's an additional plus.

but you can do it....i went through the same process about 6months ago when i got my own authority. its alot to do just starting out but u can make the money back.(i run only in tx and my ins. is $1000 a month)just get an understanding of how those loadboards work and build a relationship with the brokers that call you. The biggest issue that I have now is repairs; when that thing breaks down YOU have to get it fixed or SIT! and somethings are expensive.
PharmPhail Thanks this. -
Ok the good news is the truck was there this morning, no problems.
The bad news is now something is seriously wrong with it, somewhere in the clutch or transmission.
Goes into all gears fine it seems, but it don't want to move. Gotta hammer it to slowly float up to some speed in any gear. Put it in any gear at a dead stop and let up the clutch, and nothing. Gotta give it hell to float from a start and go. Can stop in 6th with clutch still out and not even a lug.
Reverse seems ok... There's no smell associated with this problem that I can tell. Hi/Lo doesn't seem to matter, splitter seems to switch ok when you finally meet the roadspeed requirements... just takes forever.
Guess it's going into the shop again before I even hook a trailer to it. -
I have 2 threads now? Just want to know which one to use... no biggie.

Good luck with the drivetrain issue Pharm. Doesn't sound good bro.

You have a guess? Anyone?
I think this repair is gonna be on me. Had it checked out twice before buying, nothing came up from either. Second shop said clutch needed adjusting because there was no free travel. -
Sounds like it's slipping really bad. Maybe it just needs to be adjusted. I'm not an expert on trucks but have had a few cars with manual transmissions and that could be all that needs to be done. I'd go back and talk to the second shop again, see what they say.

Well I made it halfway to the shop before the failure became catastrophic. Everyone's horns and CB's seem to be working fine though. I took the last guy's advice and got the F off the road.
Waiting on my $$$tow$$$ now. -
I dont know how, but I got 2 bucks a mile this morning, via Internet Truckstop. Maybe I got lucky but Savannah Ga, to Brooklyn NY for a flatbed rolled roofing, IDK boys it looks like times a changing I feel the tidal coming, the Carriers are coming back in town and looking for some money!! Score one for me!! after hauling an average of 1.20 a mile this month, I think today was a good step in the right direction for me and my business. Hail Ceasar!
