Good point and Wyoming typically wants people to come in and show your IFTA and vehicle registration. That said, there are ways around most of those Ports of Entry. Lusk is easy to get around but others not as easy.

I will offer a 3 tender snack from Chester's, with wedge and biscuit.

A second biscuit may be substituted for the wedge.

Can an extra potato wedge or two be substituted for the biscuit? Or I would take one of the deep fried corn on a stick things, only if it’s fresh cooked.

Problem is we're doing non-revenue move with driveaway tag and no commercial insurance. They may mistakenly believe we're carrying passengers and demand registration / IRP / IFTA / $5,000,000 insurance. I can't register until it gets to Reno due to VIN Inspection requirement.

It goes on my phone? What if my phone runs out of power?

I'll do that but I still don't have plates on the bus, only driveaway tag. I've never seen a bus driver using PrePass. You're recommending I-70 to Salina and US 50 to Reno? I-70 pretty far south from Minneapolis; I think maybe go through Omaha and Julesburg first but still not sure.

So I better not go through Wyoming?

    What about checkpoints on I-80?

I-80 is fairly easy to avoid the Ports of entry. There really is only 1 going West through Wyoming on I-80 and that is just to the East of Cheyenne. Coming from Nebraska you simply get off at Highway 213 at Burns and head North to Highway 85 South. Follow that back to I-25 South and take that back to I-80 West. This will add about 75 miles or so to your trip. There is one more in Rawlins but I have literally never seen it open so I would not worry about that either.

    Swadian and Lepton1 Thank this.

Just make sure all your paperwork and trip permits are in order and go on about your day. If they do stop you they’re not going to care that it’s a non-revenue move.

Like I said, the scales are easy to get around it just comes down to how many extra miles you want to put on and how much time you want to waste to do it. If any of the scales do chase you down your ticket will be for bypassing an open weigh station.

Minneapolis into Wyoming would be easy enough. Then you’d have to get off at Evanston WY and go up to Bear Lake and over the mountain down into Logan UT. Then up to Snowville, out through Park Valley, then back down to 80 at Oasis NV. That’s about the easiest way around the two scales in UT. Nevada doesn’t have any permanent scales, but they do run the check station east of Elmo once in a while.

    Looks like the
Looks like the only one hard to avoid is the one on I-80 east of Elko. Maybe taking US 50 will be easier?

If you take the Frontage Road (Old US 40) at Wendover will that count as violation for passing Wendover weigh station?
