At 46, I'm tired of all this work.... can't a guy get a little hugging ,and kissing..... "It's good to be the King"

Werner is rejecting just about everyone which in my opinion is a good thing. I have read nothing but bad about them. I'm talking about people going to roehl, kllm, trans am and others. You read so much negative on this site and i'm new to trucking but i feel that if you just keep your head up and fight through this horrible economy things will get better. this is america! I know alot of people who have made a good living trucking and they all told me there first job they got trucking was far from glamorous. But you have to start somewhere.

Thats exactly it, and as a new guy you get caught in this catch 22. I have to get a job to not waste my cdl but the only companies that are hiring are mostly garbage. Like TMC, they are taking students AND getting rid of drivers so the cycle continues. At least, thanks to this forum, I know going in I'm an expendable commodity at best. People tell me I have a bad attitude about it but I call it being realistic. -
If they are anything like most companies out here those trucks are sitting because they can't afford to run them. When you have 2000-3000 trucks sitting around and you only have 1000 loads to give them, sooner or later you start pulling trucks off the road. When the drivers come in and quit, they don't put another driver in it. I can barely get any maintenance done to my truck these days, the company mechanics are too busy stripping decals off the trucks. Everyone is downsizing their fleets these days. Getting rid of all these trucks is a problem, so they sit on the company's yards. If you were ever in the market to buy a truck, now is the time to buy one. -
With you getting a CDL AND your HEO(Heavy Equipment Opertors) License, you might want to look at some local Construction companies. You would be basically local and also be of more value to them because of your training.
trucking? Thanks this. -
That's funny, You should bring that up.... I went yesterday ,to fill out an application. It's a demolition company, and I'm sure they will start me at the "Bottom Feeder" position...dump truck driver, yard man, mechanic helper??..... No where to go, but up??
I already have a job offer in another area of work (Agriculture)
This job seem's more "up my ally"??
I just hope, the "dump truck driving", Is applied towards, "CDL seat time"??..... Just, trying to get that year of seat time in, that may, or may not open other door's for my Family, and me??

My understanding is that it doesn't count. Not towards OTR anyway. Thats why I'm a little hesitant to just grab something local because it feels like it may limit my opportunities in the future. I'm going to have a huge decision tomorrow. The local company I applied to wants me to ride with their guy to see if I like the job. Its a warehouse/class b driving position and I know if I take it I just threw the class a out the window. They want me to shave my goatee too which pisses me off. I applied to KLLM yesterday, I haven't read anything too bad. Just not sure what to do.
73fxe Thanks this.
