You absolutely get more as a Owner Operator if you dont that's on you. I'm not talking about guys leasing trucks from the company they pull for, those arent owner Operators anyhow.

Every time I cross the Blue Water (about four times a year), there is a good 1/4 mile backup in the right lane full of trucks. At the rate they actually move forward I've estimated a good hour in line. This is watching them move slowly as I'm waiting myself.

Both our experiences are valid. And has more to do with the level of traffic at that particular crossing.

Off topic, a past vacation was made perfect by Canadian Border control officers. I left that crossing wondering if we were being pranked and would be on some crazy TV show. lol

    LOL. C'mon.
What do you mean you wouldn't let them know? They have a copy of your drivers license don't they? They know.

the customer we haul for, usually does not have any hazmat.

but on the rare once or twice a year that i personally haul it, it all fits in a shoe sized box.

    i get my regular salary...

Actually, mine doesn’t have a copy of mine on file. If you call our safety department, they’ll tell you their records show a ## state license on file. While I actually hold a license from another state.

They are aware of it. But choose to ignore it until after the first. Long story, no time ;)

I would not pull hazmat for them if they didn't pay some type of bonus for it. Two exceptions. One would be an LTL freight company as that is just part of the job with them. The other would be if the majority of the company's freight was hazmat and they had a good enough base pay (cpm) to cover any hazmat pay.

But working for a general OTR company and not offering any incentive for a hazmat load? I think not. Hazmat loads are not difficult by any means, but it is more responsibility than a normal load. Sometimes you have to take bypass routes due to hazmat for major cities and tunnels. You also have more attention from troopers when your placarded. Your going a step above to maintain a hazmat endorsement, there is no way I'm not getting compensated for that.

I run for a company for about 7 years. I did not have hazmat when I started but got it soon after. At that time and when I renewed I sent a copy of my license to safety. But safety and dispatch and two different worlds, the dispatch computer was never updated and I didn't tell them.

Which is why I specifically said dispatcher. HR has it yea, depending on the size of the company the dispatcher may not have that info.
