I love how everyone says trapped. I bailed from Werner after 3 months.... 1-1/2 years later I'm still actively driving class A. They want you to think your stuck lol. I went local after 3 months I drive milk tanker truck class A. I would say look at what's available locally but don't quit until you have a new home lined up. My company also hired someone else that worked for usx and he also had way under a year.
Even if I worked on Christmas I still get to go home when my shift is over. Last year I worked Christmas this year I am off.
Megas mainly operate on being bad to work for and the premise that people think they have to stay a year or two. I work for Walton milk hauling and drive a 2017 kenworth t880 with an 18 speed manual transmission. My truck has 62k miles on it. I am home daily and work 8-10 hours per day. I will make around 60k this year perhaps breaking 60k.sevenmph, CruzControhl, bzinger and 1 other person Thank this. -
Why would you still stay at the company if you don't like , just move on ...I'm sure there are plenty of companies to take you aboard . I personally don't work more that 4-5 days a week as well as my driver , we home every weekend .
sevenmph and CruzControhl Thank this. -
My carrier is approximately 80 trucks. All of which are home today, no excuses.
My carrier is majority owned by a much larger carrier. Of that larger carrier, the only drivers NOT at home today are those who volunteered to stay out. And most of those are taking the holiday with extended family, using the company truck as transportation instead of the personal vehicle.
As has been previously stated, Christmas comes ONCE a blasted year. Every blasted dispatcher knows when Christmas is, and where all their drivers live. And every major carrier (and most of the minor carriers, at that) have company policies in place to get the drivers home for Christmas.
Even Werner has a policy for the holidays, and there were hands down the absolute worst carrier I ever worked with.
The ONLY drivers who should be on the road today are those who willingly VOLUTEERED to be out today. I was one of those, myself. And it was done for somewhat considerable financial reward.
So if you, as a driver, are out there today and DID NOT volunteer to do so. Now you know what your dispatcher thinks of you and your needs and wants as a FELLOW EMPLOYEE.Truckermania, CruzControhl and bzinger Thank this. -
Ive yet to find a good company (not a mega) that cares about "job hopping". Infact the only people I ever found to even mention having to work for a mega carrier for 1 year minimum is when I was in driving school and the reps from the megas were coming in.
Op needs to find a decent smaller carrier based in his area that is hiring. They'll see that 13mo of experience and be happy to have him (barring no tickets/accidents).
I actually tried to stay out running till xmas eve and yet I still dropped my truck off at our shop Fri night before our company xmas party.CruzControhl Thanks this.
