Don’t be afraid to run a plug. I ran one for probably 8 months on a drive tire, never could tell it was leaking unless it was wet. I finally got new tires. It held pressure just fine.
Flat tire emergency kit, are they useful as a permanent solution?

Tire inflation systems are good for if you pick up a nail on the road while driving, so you don't blow the tire. But if you get pulled into a scale for inspection, don't think the DOT is gonna let you go with a leaky tire because you have a tire inflation system lol. Nothing wrong with taking 10 mins to ram a plug in the hole until you get to a shop.

I went to tire place and repaired it. Guy who was doing was probably new inexperienced the way he was handling his tools and time it took him (but I’m just a customer and shouldn’t judge anyone). They charged $53. I hope it will last.

The going rate I’ve seen is 75.00 and up. -
Oh well, even $53 for me is cheap insurance.Highway Sailor Thanks this. -
Tire plugs are cheap and work well. Always have some in case of emergency.

You cannot depend on a kit to be permanent. You basically have a bomb waiting on that wheel as far as I am concerned. Nothing like a GOOD tire shop to fix, or replace permanently.
We use ours often. But once in a while tire is all in and has to be replaced. (And they are.)
Disclaimer, I do not do Super Singles. It's duals only; too many times lose one and the other is the difference between a expensive tow, road service and safety for fixing. -
Yes they can be used as a permanent fix.
If shops can do it. No reason the drivers can't as well. But it takes the tire being in a good position as they can be a real PITA trying to get the plug in.
Just don't expect them to last till the tire is finished if you got plenty of tread left. But patches don't hold forever either.
Those repair kits at the truckstops however, are really cheap and bend and break really easy.
Find yourself some better quality tools that will do a few repairs before breaking.Crude Truckin' Thanks this.
