Driving in the Oilfield

They are hiring anyone with a pulse and a strong back in the Permian/West Texas/NM areas. Just google "oilfield jobs in Texas" that will keep you busy......best chance would be to get on with one of the big service companies and then climb from there......good luck!!

 

I’m thinking about going to the oilfield also. I really just want to get tanker experience so the I can by a truck and pull tanks. I have a friend that just got on with Arapahoe but I don’t know how good that company is.

Probably ask your buddy working there how he likes it. He should know real quick if what they offered is legit. I've known guys who hired on with a ####ty company figure out within a week they were working for a bunch of liars!

Where are they running and where is their HQ?...............Tank jobs are quite abundant,just depends on your experience and location.

 

I see some in ND prefer applicants with PEC (Safeland) or OSHA 10, and H2S cert, will companies put you through the training or is this something I should consider going out and trying to get completed before applying? Thanks in advance!

 

Those certs are not that expensive and they are not difficult to get.... OSHA 10 is a 10 hour class about how to be safe, slips, trips, and falls.. etc... H2S is about Hydrogen Sulfide and learned about the effects of it... Also knowing which PPM can be deadly to you... If you go onto a site and you see a bunch of morons wearing their H2S monitor on their hardhat then chances are they have no clue what they are doing...

 

I had none of that when I applied for my current gig. The company provided all the training. I have the H2S cert, not sure about the others you mentioned, but we have about a dozen other certifications we go through every year or so to qualify for serving various customers. I get alerts when a particular certification is due and whether it is an online class or whether I need to be at the terminal on X date to take a class.

I would recommend talking to companies you want to work for and ask them whether they provide training. If they don't then ask how most drivers get the certifications. It might be that smaller outfits don't provide in house or online training, in that case they must know how to get certified. Even if their drivers are hired with all the necessary certifications, they still need to go through the process again when a certificate expires.
