1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

I'm pre-hired for Conway-Truckload, Koch, and Schneider Bulk (tanker). I'm leaning toward the pumpkin just because I want to get into tankers. I can't find anyone else actually hiring in my area for tankers, who will take an experienced driver, but inexperienced tanker. With my years of experience, SNI will start me at .39 cpm, and bennies from day one. The real attraction however, besides learning a new skill, is to not have the wait times of typical van haulers. I know the schneider reputation for lower wages and driver unhappiness, but a lot of that are 1st year drivers who are trying to get used to the truck business in general.

CWTL and Koch are pretty similar van haulers. I think CWTL is a slightly better company, but they have a 3-4 week wait on trucks right now, so that factors against them. I would normally take them over Koch, but not with the wait for trucks. Once I got a truck, I'd probably get more miles here than with either of the other two. CWTL starts me at .36 cpm.

Koch does a lot of dedicated work. So if and when the economy comes back, those accounts will be rocking and rolling again, so it'd be nice to be positioned to slide into one of them. Right now though, I hear they are sucking for miles. It's so bad they are taking veteran drivers off their dedicated accounts and putting them on National OTR. Kind of bodes for what is going to happen to me. Massive wait times for loads. Koch has more attainable bonuses I think, possibly 300/month. Starting at .35 cpm.

So that's the thought process I've gone through over the past month. Now I have the three of them to choose from. I'm heading for the pumpkin most likely, just to break into the tanker biz. I'm open to friendly advice however. Be safe! :biggrin_25525:

best of luck to you.I think it is great to have an open mind and the tanker deal sounds as if is the ticket.
I too have many years driving,18+/- ,had been out of the driving force for a bit due to family issues like a death and alzheimer's,then got back in driving a log truck.the job was a temp position which i knew going in but man it hit hard to have it end when the perm driver's health issues became better.I am happy he is back at it but saddened to lose my job.
My point? perhaps i too need to open up a bit and consider someone like a pumpkin tanker or other BUt the 65 mph and less limits they run would be the LARGEST 180 ever done by me in trucking.
Therefore,i ask you how do you handle driving a slow truck? don't the pumpkins run <less than 65mph?
regardless, best of luck to you in your new arena in trucking.it sounds as if you put tremendous thought into the decision so it should go well.

I just finished driving for a company that started at 68 mph, and was 65 mph for the last 9 months or so. I don't like going that slow, but I look at it this way. I have no experience transporting liquid loads, so I probably have no business doing more than 63 mph anyway. I think I'll manage. Remember the pumpkin is basically a training company, so they aren't going to be in a hurry to let anyone loose with a fast truck. Thanks for the good wishes, and same to you. I drove a log truck for awhile, made driving on asphalt again seem like a luxury! :biggrin_2554:

I drive for Quality Carriers (actually an affiliate ) . They will hire without tanker experience and I know there are other tanker companies that will too .

like to know more about q/c as a o/o . Has there work been steady,or are the drivers sitting waiting loads. I heard awhile back alot of drivers left because of the new pay structure or something. How does the new pay systemwork. I live in nj close to the bridgeport terminal. What is event pay. I`m really looking for a overall view of q/c.

Their website is under Quality Distribution . They have over 100 terminals and it's like 100 different companies . Some terminals are operated by affiliates and most of them treat O/O's better than QC does .
The rate deal was FSC was paid as a percentage and it was exceptionally high . The rate was restructured so it was more in line with what the industry average was . That was less money for the O/O's and they didn't like it . I can't tell you what is going on with other terminals . Q/C has moved from paying percentage to paying a flat rate per mile . They call it the Road Dog program . You really need to talk to their recruiter and try to talk to O/O's out of the terminal you are working out of . Almost all our loads are dedicated so our O/O's just come home when empty . All applications have to be done online to corporate . Terminals can no longer accept applications . Affiliates don't like this because it gives corporate first pick with applicants .
