Hey everyone I just turned 21 and have been waiting my whole life to drive. My dad is a truck driver and I have been otr with him when ever I could. Now I am ready for my own trucking life. Heres what I need help in

A company that will train me and give me a job.

Drive 48 states and canada if needed.

I have no family so I can be on the road for a long time (months if I have to)

    Accept all loads

    make descent money

Need a condo truck because I am kind of Claustrophobic and need the room on top of my head.

    Where do I go?

Only one I can think of right now is Werner. They get a bad rap on here, but I've never worked for them. I think maybe Conway Truckload is still doing some training, but you'd have to call and ask them. I'm not sure if they actually train you, or exactly what their relationship is to the CDL school. Call them though, much better than Werner. Don't bother with Schneider if you are inexperienced, they are only taking veteran drivers right now. Best of luck to you, it may be rough sledding in this biz for awhile.

Being 21 will probably be an obstacle for you, since most insurance companies require an age of 23, usually.

I'm in the same boat you are in right now. I'm 21 as well, but I've been driving off and on for two years. Unfortunately, my two years local experience doesn't count for OTR. So, when it comes to OTR I'm dead even with every other newbie. My recommendation would be to find a local (in your area) OTR company and give them a try.

Just to add on here, I got turned down by Con-Way today. I even asked them about being trained as a rookie and they still declined. :biggrin_25516:

    Mid roofs have room.......

Do you realize how many times this same line is handed to trucking companies per day ???

Do you know the character associations that are "automatically" applied to an incoming driver who makes this comment ???

I'm sitting here with a 5 gallon can of gas, I would like to use on this thread...on that one comment. But I won't.

I think I am going to end up going to Swift heck my dad started his career their and mid roofs are ok im talking about the trucks that are completely flat in the front for example the petes and the KWs. I don't care if the truck was missing a bumper as long as their is room over my head to move.

They have a terminal in Gary IN. They are not as bad as the other starter companies like CR England or Werner.
