If there's off road work around there I'd get 46k rears and heavy duty air ride. Definitely full lockers too.
Erictanker Thanks this. -
How and when do you use full locking ??
-
I have 46,000 with full lockers.
Helps to get you going when fully loaded on soft ground. It takes an awfully lot of torque to launch the truck out in the dirt.
I had a set of 40,000 lbs rears , after only two years of that kind of work, the bearings gave out on the front diffErictanker Thanks this. -
In sc. the typical spec is 14k front 46 rears. Not many run 18 to 20k steers unless the truck pulls double duty pulling a lowboy. But there are are a heap with 12/40.

Up on the west coast it seems Western Star and Kenworth are the king in the bush. Do see the odd HD Freightliner too. Logging needs a different breed of truck than a typical door slammer specs.
