Lubricating Truck Door Key Lock?

My truck door key lock on my 2014 Freightliner Cascadia DD15 is getting a little rough to turn, and I may occasionally need to play with it for 1-2 seconds for it to turn. I do not want to replace it, if I don’t have to. Can lubricating it give it more life? If so, what should I lubricate it with? Regular grease that I use for my truck grease fittings?

    No grease!

Pull the lock cylinder if you can. Clean it out with brake cleaner and lube it with a dry graphite. Anything petroleum based will just attract dirt and grime and it will be sticky again.

Plus, do you have another copy of the key? Try it. It could be the key itself is what is getting worn.
And if not, see if the dealership will not rape you for a new key cut by the VIN, not by copying.

I don't know how you all put up without having the button on the keychain to unlock or lock it.

    You should find better jobs.

I've heard this before that Freightliner will make the key for your truck. My truck is an older truck, a 1995. When I called Freightliner they absolutely told me positively no way would they make me a key. I have been afraid to have anyone else make me a key because I only have one. And I have gotten the outrageous prices like $100 to cut a key that's basically the same as an old Chevrolet key.

Does this kind of things vary from dealer to dealer?

How much to install it, and how long does it last before having to fix or replace it?

You might as well put on a brand new lock. Your current lock may not have much life left.

If you bought your truck from a big fleet, they should be able to make you a key if you show them the title and an ID. I ended up with a bunch of keys for my truck because mechanics at the company’s yard kept on making new keys to get to my truck and left them inside (or, maybe what I have is master keys).

For a 95 model find a old hardware store and have one cut. I’ve got a couple keys on my keychain now that I’d bet $100 will open your truck.
