Often dispatch will send the broker load sheet /rate con to the driver. I believe what he was saying was start keeping a list bof what brokers the company is using. Also, some of the bigger carriers brother loads as well.
Sign up for a month or 2 and watch the board. Loads are also posted in the forum, so watch that also. As a paid member, you can also sign up for email alerts. Brokers email a couple times a day, but it's a lot of Hopper and dump loads.

Why is the tanker world so secretive? I haul tanker and would like to get a piece of the pie.
-
I don't think it's secretive as much as it is specialized. Someone tell me if I'm incorrect but I don't believe Landstar has a load board for tankers. Everything else, but no tankers.77fib77 Thanks this.
-
Because too many companies are willing to undercut the next guy. I find in the specialized segments like tanker or even dump, no one wants to talk about rates or lanes. If a company finds a nitch, they keep their mouths shut.
Nothereoften and 88 Alpha Thank this. -
And then a mega hears about it and screws it up. I never mention the niche's I've known for years because I'd rather keep the little guys around
-
I wouldnt say we are secretive at all...
There arent any load boards because most loads are just in time freight status from shipper to receiver.
You cant toss it out to a load board to sit a week to see if anybody wants it and has the capacity.
Doubt, as a single unit, you will find a good paying gig. Shippers dont want the hassle and frankly cant afford it. Neither can their customers.
If an individual tried to compete with us for the "good paying" loads they would find that we have adequate capacity on site for all of the tier one loads. You'd be shut out period.
We cover all of those and have additional capacity for tier ii loads. So again you are shut out.
Tier iii is filler work for us. Those you might get but keep in mind, we pull those also once in a while when tier i or ii are slow.
There are regular tier iii haulers and you could compete with them and grab some loads... but those guys are fighting over scraps with each other.
And i am not trying to be rude, arrogant, or dash your hopes... just being realistic. I have been dedicated to a good customer for over a decade as a company driver. Early on, i thought, man i should get my own truck and two trailers and clean house.
You know, spend $400,000 in equipment to get those gravy runs....
Or spend 2 million to make a million.
My company pays fair to well. You will not get rich here. They are not getting rich here.
They are making long term investments making pennies on the dollar.
You'd starve. Nature of the beast in these parts.kemosabi49 and spindrift Thank this. -
Yes I understand it's going to take time. I would like to have a contract 10 years from now. I've seen the rate cons and once you get one you better hold on to it for dear life! -
I would say it depends on the location where you’re trying to start the company.
Few guys around Houston doing it with a few trucks and trailers.77fib77 Thanks this. -
How is your trailer set up? Rear, Center, etc Bulk Loads is a good place to start, but public loads like those have slowed down. There is work out there.
